Data Contractor
Based in Exton, Pennsylvania, CAP Index is a small but impactful firm specializing in crime data analytics and consulting, focusing on crime risk assessment. The team, which consists of fewer than fifty people, provides valuable insights and advisory services on crime statistics. As a Data Contractor working remotely, I played a key role in the Crime Risk Analytics and Consulting team. My job involved using SaaS platforms to create detailed reports and presentations that showcased important trends and findings from our crime data analysis. I made sure these insights were communicated to both team members and stakeholders through effective presentations and visualizations. I also used advanced analytical tools to dig deep into the data.
One of my standout projects was launching a study to explore the link between higher unhoused populations and crime spikes in major U.S. cities. The goal was to see if including unhoused population data could improve the accuracy of crime score ratings, which would help businesses get more precise risk assessments. In addition, I made sure that crime score data for our commercial clients was accurate and up-to-date, managing this information carefully in Excel and other databases.
This role gave me a richer understanding of how data-driven insights can shape business decisions and provided hands-on experience with real-world analytical challenges. It also enhanced my studies in Management Information Systems (MIS) by building on the skills I learned in my Data and Analytics class, the User Experience Design course, and research methodology classes. This practical experience brought my academic coursework to life.
