AIS Mentorship Program
I participated in this event both as a mentor and a mentee. As a mentee I was paired with Victor Morales, who was a senior when I was a sophomore. He drove me toward different directions that I was passionate about and gave me individual pointers as to what to look out for in job searches and in job interviews. He often spoke about how in the interviewing process, you need to be very honest with the potential employer because if you really don’t want to work for them, then you’re both just wasting your time. So he opted to tell me to choose which places I applied at carefully and base it on whether or not I’d really see myself working there.
Last semester, I served as a mentor for Shane Ferrell, who already had extensive experience with working in the military’s National Security Agency and serving as a Signal Intelligence Analyst in the Air Force. I was still able to give him some pointers as to where he would want to go in the future and how he might drive himself toward better goals. Seeking job opportunities you’re genuinely interested in is what was very important to him as well as myself. I really enjoyed participating in this experience.
