Hi Class,

Last night we held a comprehensive review for the final.  The final will be a combination of Multiple Choice/True or False/Short Answer/Essay.  It will be closed notes/computer/book, but you can bring in one page of notes for reference.  You will have the entire class to complete the exam.

Please submit any lingering assignments ASAP as I will not be accepting any assignments regardless of late penalty after this week.

Good luck preparing for the Final!

Have a great Thanksgiving break!

Week 11 Update

November 9, 2016 by Patrick J. Wasson Leave a Comment

Hi Class,

Last night we covered part 2 of Application Software Development.  We covered the foundation of programming including classes, object, properties, methods, events, form controls, variables, conditional logic (if…then…else) and loops (for and while).  We covered this material by creating a windows forms application and illustrating the concepts by coding in the application.  We also discussed the difference between windows forms applications and windows web applications.

Next week we will move onto Web Application Security, where we will cover the 10 most common vulnerabilities found in web applications and how they are exploited as well as an exercise where we will analyze and attempt to hack a vulnerable web site.

For next week: 1) Complete all of the assigned readings for Week 12 listed under materials on the course website 2) Submit Murach Exercises 4-1 and 5-1 to me before next week’s class

Note: If you are have any assignments from previous weeks that you have not submitted to me please submit them to me ASAP as the late penalties will continue to add up based on how long past the due date the assignment was submitted.

Have a great week!

Hi Class,

I have posted our virtual class webex from last night to the Week 10 Material section of our course website.  To recap: We reviewed Tech Challenge 4, went through the Application Software Part 1 presentations and went through an intro to IIS Web Servers and Visual Studio, including the creations of a small windows forms application.

Due next week: Tech Challenge 5 (Send me a Screenshot of IIS), Tech Challenge 7, Murach C# Exercise 2-1 and 3-1 (For the exercises please zip up and send me your entire code folder for the solutions), Read Murach C# Chapters 4 and 5.

I have posted a few discussion threads and may ask a few questions over the next week.  As part of the participation grade please contribute to this discussion thread.  Also, please post all issues/errors to the discussion boards.

Next week we will go deeper into application development and cover programming fundamentals.

See you all next week!

Week 9 Update

October 26, 2016 by Patrick J. Wasson Leave a Comment

To recap: last night we reviewed MySQL Server, MySQL Workbench and covered SQL Queries, including how to interpret database architecture and joins.

Next week we will begin Web/Application Development, which will include an introduction to Visual Studio, web servers, and an introduction to programming.

For next week: 1) Submit Tech Chall 4 & 6 ASAP if you have not done so yet 2) Submit the Database Development Assignment (Murach MySQL Ch 4 questions 1-7) I need a screenshot of your full SQL query as well as the results. 3) Read Murach C# Chapter 1,2,3

If you are able to please start on Tech Challenge 5 and Tech Challenge 7 (Steps 1-8) which involves installing Visual Studio 2015 on your -IIS1 VM in MS Azure.  I am hoping we can begin programming next week and the install takes some time, so it would be great if everyone already has Visual Studio running.

See you all next week!
