D&I/Tech Intern

This summer I worked with Union Pacific Railroad as a D&I/Tech Intern. I improved Diversity and Inclusion for Union Pacific by utilizing Microsoft Excel to advance the D&I team’s resource management which enhanced their decision-making, problem-solving, and the company’s overall competitive advantage. I also worked with other interns to implement a new ERG (Employee Resource Group) Registration system. This summer I was given the opportunity to combine Diversity and Inclusion with Technology by participating in the creation of a new ERG Registration system for Union Pacific. I first had to learn how to implement Microsoft Power Platform Technologies such as PowerApps, Power Automate, and SharePoint. After acquiring this knowledge, my role in the tech team included creating a functional calendar with Microsoft PowerApps that’s being used to display events, brainstorming with a team of interns regarding the design and features of the new ERG system, utilizing Power Automate to update data on a database connected to the company’s main server, and updating information regarding ERG leadership on the new website. Finally, I also translated technical terms for the tech team to non-technical customers. Working at Union Pacific, I learned a new technology platform and was able to see how technology directly impacted the customer (ERGS). I was able to see the development behind that technology that took place and help build a complete user experience, fulfilling an objective of the course User Experience Designs.
