What I learned:
This webinar began by highlighting why tech companies are important for the future. I learned a lot about the common first jobs of developers in both the front end and back end and what languages they commonly used. I also learned about other coding jobs like product managers, growth hackers, sales/solutions engineers, and data scientists. The last thing that I learned was how to get my foot in the door when applying to some of these jobs. The speaker highlighted the importance of building a portfolio to highlight skills in order to succeed during an interview. In addition, the speaker mentioned that developers need to be able to talk about their code and explain it to be successful, and hiring managers will test this during interviews.
Related to coursework/career goals:
Like many other students pursuing an MIS degree, coding and development can sometimes seem intimidating to me. This webinar taught me valuable information about how to get started as a developer and the massive amount of resources that are available to learn a new language. I can take this information to help me later advance towards my career goals of becoming proficient in more coding languages. The webinar also gave me advice on applying to different tech jobs which I will be able to use in future interviews.
