Cybersecurity Awareness: Cybersecurity Terminology

In this cybersecurity course, I played the role of a participant eager to enhance my understanding of cybersecurity terminology and concepts. Under the guidance of instructor Lauren Zink, the course provided a comprehensive crash course in cybersecurity vocabulary, aimed at empowering individuals to contribute to the security of their company’s assets as well as their personal data. Throughout the program, I delved into core concepts of cybersecurity, exploring the intricate relationship between people, processes, and technology. Lauren adeptly navigated through the ever-evolving security landscape, highlighting the importance of being well-versed in terminology to effectively secure networks in various environments, be it at home, on the go, or in the workplace. By the end of the course, I achieved a deeper understanding of common threats and risks, and how they translate into practical measures for creating a more secure environment. Specific learning objectives included explaining the roles of red, blue, and purple teams, understanding various adversaries, describing technical controls such as multifactor authentication (MFA), interpreting network controls, and articulating types of technical risks and threats. Through this experience, I not only expanded my cybersecurity vocabulary but also gained valuable insights into the fundamental principles that underpin secure digital environments.
