Skills

  • Leadership

I have shown my leadership skills through my involvement in Temple Association Systems, the official student organization of my major.  I have spent my tenure learning soft skills that have increased both my productivity and passion for this major and department.  This can be quantified through the two years of leadership roles through the organizations, one as Director of Professional Development and the next as President.

  • Problem Solving

Throughout my classes, I have found myself most successful in situations where I have been pushed out of my boundaries to solve a problem.  I enjoy using my creative capabilities to solve intricate and complex problems.

  • Fast Learning

When approached with new classes and projects, I love learning new skills.  For example, when I had taken up a role as Director of Public Relations, I needed to learn more about social media and leading a team.  I learned from Lynda.com and other online resources how to successfully lead a team focused on social media.  I find it most exciting to learn skills that aren’t normally taught in a college classroom.

Background

First, I spent my childhood playing sports, lots of them.  I played soccer, football, baseball, golf, and basketball.  These sports created great relationships with friends and coaches, and I still continue to communicate with them today.  During high school, I found myself in computer-aided drafting classes and thought I would see myself in an engineering or architecture school.  I found that I just had a passion for building things, that’s how I stumbled on the MIS program at Temple.  The classes in this program have fantastic projects that simulate the real world, and that is very difficult to find in a college major.

Goals

I would like to see myself one day work in a role one day where I can solve different problems and projects.  I have a passion for building and solving, so I see myself going down two paths.  One of the paths is to work in a consulting role, implementing different technical solutions into companies that previously were under-utilizing their data and technical abilities.  Another way I would like to go is to build my own business.  I would find it very fulfilling to build something from the ground up and would like to spend some time in the future doing so.
