Field Data Collection and Mobile GIS: Digital Tools for Research in the Field
In this workshop, I learned how modern mobile data collection can be done using smartphones and tablets to make fieldwork more efficient and organized. I was introduced to KoBoToolbox and learned how to create and deploy digital surveys in a way that is practical for research and community-based projects. I also learned about QField and how it connects mobile GIS work to QGIS, making it easier to collect geographic data directly in the field. The session helped me understand survey design best practices, how to collect data offline when internet access is limited, how to use GPS for location-based data, and how to capture photos and other multimedia during data collection. I also learned how data can be synchronized back to desktop systems, which makes the whole process more accurate and manageable for research, student projects, and field-based work.
