GIS Software Developer and Analyst
This summer, I had the pleasure and honor of working with the 5th largest cable provider in the nation, Mediacom. It serves mainly in the midwest, but the headquarters is in Chester, New York. My internship lasted 10 weeks starting on June 2nd and ending on August 7th. I worked in the Business Engineering department under my manager Eric Romaine, and I got exposed to new softwares such as MYSQL developer where I got access to the company’s database and started working with thousands of data the company has stored. I also used ArcGIS pro which was a software used to map and analyze geographical data, which was helpful in visualizing the company’s network and the areas of service. I ultimately wrapped up the final project I worked on and coded with a python script which I tested many times on Jupyter Notebook, and it was an interactive web map application that goes through all the nodes we have mapped, checks for any extreme weather conditions and highlights the affected nodes, the type of weather condition affecting them, and a timestamp for updates. This relates to my major as I took many courses prior such as Data and Analytics, Web Map Development, and these courses gave me a strong foundation and head start in my role. This was just a brief description, but this experience was amazing and lead to a lot of growth skill wise, and networking wise.
