Read Between the Lines: Decoding Charts and Graphs in the News
In the workshop Read Between the Lines, the session focused on evaluating charts, graphs, and statistics used in news media, with an emphasis on identifying misleading visuals, incomplete data, and biased framing. We got exposed to different types of data visualizations such as pie charts, bar charts and line charts – and how to spot common mistakes. I engaged in discussions and applied examples/activities to determine the accuracy of the data we got exposed to. Through this workshop, I strengthened my ability to question data presentations, interpret visual information more accurately, and make informed, evidence-based judgments when analyzing news and public information.
