Gamma Iota Sigma
Gamma Iota Sigma – Sigma Chapter
I have been a member of the Sigma Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, a student professional organization at Temple University, since Spring 2013. I am fortunate enough to be at a business school with a very strong chapter. I participate in weekly meetings with executives from companies in the industry; past guest speakers have been Mark Freedman, President of the Society of Actuaries, and Thomas Kunkel, President of Bonds and Financial Products at Travelers. I enjoy learning about the latest challenges of the industry and what is being done to tackle these issues.
I have also been in the Actuarial Science Career Development Committee since I joined. I participate in bi-weekly meetings with guest speakers who are professionals in the industry. An additional advantage to hearing these individuals speak is the advice that they have for someone in my shoes who is just getting started in the industry.
I am the Vice President of Management Information Systems and to help maintain the Sigma Chapter’s website. I also manage and train a team of three other MIS officers and facilitate three team meetings per week to coordinate our responsibilities.
