Working as a Guitar Instructor

I served as a guitar instructor and counselor throughout my five years working at the Downingtown School of Rock. This consisted of Monday through Friday camps that were attended by children aged 7-14, and concluded with a concert on the final day. Due to these strict time restraints, I was under a lot of pressure to effectively teach the material to these students. One thing you learn when teaching an art, or any material for that matter, is that everyone learns differently. Another major realization that I came across is that different teaching styles or methods worked more effectively for people with different skill sets. For every lesson, I would have to gauge the student’s skill level and determine why a certain teaching method would work better than the others. In conclusion, this job increased my communication skills significantly.
