Work Experience

KIPP Philadelphia Schools consists of 5 schools across grades K through 12 serving around 2000 students in the Philadelphia area. In my role as a Data Analyst Intern, I was responsible for compiling and analyzing student data to generate insights that dealt with student achievement such as testing, homework, and assessments.

Since starting this position at the start of the Spring 2018 semester, I have learned how to manipulate data to tell a story and effectively communicate my findings to others who may not be so tech-savvy. My Management Information System courses taken at Temple University gave me a great foundation for understanding the data analysis tools that are commonly used in the workplace. At this internship I got to see first hand how my work directly affects other departments as well as the stakeholders. Through my projects that were assigned, I greatly improved my skills on Tableau and Microsoft Office applications.

This position gave me a chance to be work alongside a wonderful team while being able to contribute my independent thoughts. I was able solve thought provoking problems that forced me to critically think my way to a solution. It felt amazing to know that we can use these technical tools to give these students the best opportunity possible for them to succeed academically.

In the summer of 2017, I interned as a Web Designer for the startup company Pound Cake Cosmetics. My role involved developing a web prototype that reconstructed Pound Cake’s current website to one that fits their vision and needs, utilizing the Justinmind software. In addition to this task, I sat in on meetings giving my input on marketing strategies for their Indiegogo campaign. Another task expected of me was to monitor their social media accounts, creating captivating posts to keep their followers engaged throughout this renovation.

This internship required me to learn more about the Justinmind software, beyond my class room understanding, in order to fit this company’s needs. In addition to improving my understanding of this software, I learned more about the makeup industry in the process. My insight on this industry as been widened and I am more aware than ever. Each week it was expected of me to present weekly deliverables, ensuring that this project meets its milestones. Overall, this was a great experience and opportunity that pushed my abilities that I did not know I had, making me a better candidate for my potential future employers.

Sears

I spent a year after graduating high school working part-time at Sears and Roebuck Co. I was first hired as a cashier, which led to me becoming a Merchandise and Pricing Associate. Through each task I was assigned, I continued to gain knowledge rapidly resulting in me executing roles outside of my job description. Some of the tasks I indulged in included: executing promotional ad set-up and takedown while preparing promotional ads and signs for all departments of the store on a bi-weekly basis. Also providing excellent customer service for housing goods, home fashion, and others.
