Tableau Desktop Installation and Activation
Next Monday (Feb 2), we will begin learning how to use Tableau Desktop for data analyses.
The classroom laptops have Tableau already installed. If you’d like to use your personal laptops, you’ll need to download, install, and activate the software.
- Download Tableau Desktop (not Server or Online) from http://www.tableau.com/products/trial.
- Install it on your machine.
- Get an activation code from Blackboard My Grades.
- Use this code for activation. (Put your Temple email in “Business email” and Temple University for “Organization.”)
Good news – There is a Mac version of Tableau!
If you’re going to use your own laptop on next Monday, please make sure you install and activate it before the class.
Class attendance for this Friday (Jan 30)
As announced, we will have a prep session for Assignment #1 this Friday (Jan 30).
If you can complete your Assignment #1 and submit it into Blackboard by 9am Friday, you don’t need to come to the class. Your attendance will be waived.
Online discussion questions – Day 7 (Jan 28) – Data Visualization
Find a cool data visualization anywhere on the Internet (try newspaper/magazine sites such as New York Times or Technology Review).
- What are the sources of the data visualized?
- What are the key messages in these graphics?
- What kind of delivery means do the graphics adopt to deliver the messages?
