What is a network effect and what are some examples?
A network effect is a phenomenon in which the value of a product or service increases as more people use it. Essentially, the more users a network has, the more valuable it becomes to each individual user. This positive feedback loop can create a self-reinforcing cycle, leading to exponential growth. One classic example of a network effect is seen in social media platforms, such as Facebook or Twitter. As more users join these platforms, the value for existing users increases since they have a larger network to connect with and share information. Another example is the telephone system: the more people with phones, the more valuable the network becomes, as there are more potential contacts. Network effects play a crucial role in the success of various technologies and services in today’s interconnected world.
Ajibola Sode says
Hey Regan,
Your definition of a network effect is spot-on. It’s a crucial concept in economics and business, particularly in the digital economy, where many products and services operate within networked environments.
Mahbuba Ahmed says
Hi Regan,
They were great advice for online safety, creating strong passwords, staying cautious with personal information are practical steps for a more secure online experience. Regular updates and the VPN also add an extra layer of security and staying informed about cybersecurity threats is a key.

Hello Regan,
Nice work! Who doesn’t have social media nowadays? Especially cell phones. I see nine years old with cell phones and honestly it scares me a bit coming from a mother.

What is network effect? Well network effect is when a product’s value increases the more people use it. The more people use the product the more the product increases value for the individual user. A perfect example of this is TikTok. TikTok started out as dancing videos to various music. The more users use and post on TikTok the more content there is on the platforms and the more TikTok’s a user can watch. It also adds value to the creators too because the more users are using the app the more potential watchers of their TikTok can see it. So the more people use the app the better the app is for the people using it. Now that their are millions of people on the app there are a ton of different type of TikToks with so many things to watch. This is a great example of the network effect.

Who are product managers and what do they do?
Product Managers are professionals responsible for a product’s overall success. They’re the intersection between business, technology, and user experience, ensuring that the product meets market needs and aligns with the company’s goals. The role includes defining vision and strategy, conducting market research, overseeing development, deciding feature prioritization, leading cross-functional teams, planning product launches, monitoring performance, iterating based on user feedback, and communicating with stakeholders. In short, Product Managers are custodians of the product, responsible for its success from conception to retirement.
Eduard Lagutin says
Hello Ajibola,
I like your description of product managers especially the part when you said,” They’re the intersection between business, technology, and user experience, ensuring that the product meets market needs and aligns with the company’s goals”. Awesome job and very informative.
Zarmina Khan says
Hi Ajibola.
I also responded to this question, and I think you summed it pretty nicely. Along with all these roles that the product manager embodies, leading cross functional teams is a well said point in understanding their roles throughout almost all fields within a company that seeks to put out a product, small or large. Working along side design, marketing, sales, engineering all plays a vital role in how the product will be created essentially, like having a control group in each stage which allows for success hopefully everytime.
Ajibola Sode says
Effective communication stands as a vital component of a Product Manager’s duties, necessitating clear and impactful interactions with an array of stakeholders, including internal team members, company executives, customers, and external partners. Their responsibility encompasses conveying the product’s vision, updating on developments, and soliciting feedback, which serves as a foundational element in shaping the trajectory of product strategy and decisions. This ability to communicate effectively ensures that all parties are aligned with the product’s goals and progress, facilitating a collaborative environment conducive to the product’s success.

What are the pros and cons of cloud computing?
To start this off we need to understand what cloud computing is. Cloud computing is a way to access computing services remotely. Some of the services are made of but not limited to servers, storage, databases and software.
Some of the pros of using cloud computing is the cost. Instead of buying your own server and running all your operations in house which can be incredibly expensive you can rent out server space from someone else for a given duration of time. This can save you a lot of money on the components and maintenance of servers and other things. You will also have to hire an in house IT team to manage these things as well. Another pro is the security. Big companies invest a lot of money to make sure their servers are well secured and backups are made regularly. If you had a server at your HQ and everything was wiped from it that can spell disaster for a very long time.
Some cons of using cloud computing is that you are relying on the people you are using the service from to keep everything running smoothly. You have a lot less control and have to put your faith in others. If their servers go down for a period of time well then you cannot use their resources.
Regan DeShazo says
I like you response Eduard, I would also like to add:
Security concerns arise due to the potential exposure of sensitive data to external threats. Downtime can be an issue if there are disruptions in internet connectivity or cloud service provider outages. Dependency on a third-party provider raises issues of data control and compliance with regulations. Additionally, ongoing costs can accumulate over time, and customization may be limited in some cloud environments, posing challenges for specific business needs.
Zarmina Khan says
Hi Eduard,
When talking about pros and cons of using another company for cloud computing, other than the cons being that when their server goes or something happens the reliability also goes down as well, could you see that as a large con considering the goal of cloud computing?
Mahbuba Ahmed says
Hello Eduard,
Your answer gives a great breakdown of cloud computing, covering both its advantages and drawbacks. The points about cost saving and enhanced security are particularly insightful. Overall, it was an informative posts.

Who are product managers and what do they do?
Product managers are professional who are responsible for developing and the management of a product throughout it’s lifecycle. Their role has a multitude of tasks involved from business strategy, design, to project management. Some key aspects of their job are product strategy, which defined the overall vision and strategy along with identifying market opportunities and customer needs while conducting market research and analyzing the competition. Another role they embody is roadmapping, which allows them to develop and maintain a product roadmap that outlines the planned features and enhancements they need over time. Allowing them to allocate resources effectively. They have a lot of work that allows them to collaborate with various teams, such as engineering, design, marketing and sales to ensure that a cohesive product development is in the works. They work with UX and design teams while considering user experience and design principle in user development. Along with business metrics, customer feedback, iterative improvement, and data analysis, which product managers take the roles of.
Danylo Pidkova says
Hi Zarmina,
I think that product managers are very like orchestra conductors. Just as a conductor directs musicians, product managers guide various teams to develop and then manage a product. Their role is crucial because they ensure everyone is on the same page and focused on creating the best possible product. Plus, they’re always listening to customer feedback and analyzing data to make sure the product keeps getting better over time.
Hadeer Saad says
Hello Zarmina,
Being a product manager sounds like it’d be a very satisfying position. Interestingly, they collaborate with many different teams. They keep people responsible and provide a layer of guidance for various teams. It makes sense how this position alone can drastically increase the efficiency of an organization.
Hawa Barry says
Hi Zarmina,
I like your in-depth explanation of product manager roles. I like how versatile their positions are and how what they do from day-to-day can vary based on current projects.
Danylo Pidkova says
What are the pros and cons of Cloud computing?
Cloud computing is a technology that lets you use computer resources and store data over the internet instead of on your own computer. Of course, there are some good and bad sides of using cloud computing. For example one of the main advantages of cloud computing is the flexibility and cost savings it offers. It can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, enabling remote work, collaboration, and access to resources on-the-go. Instead of investing in expensive hardware and infrastructure, you can pay a relatively small fee for cloud services and easily adjust how much computer power or storage space you need. You also get the latest features and security updates without having to do anything.
But there also some cons I’d like to point out, such as complete dependance on Internet connectivity. You need a good and very reliable internet connection to use cloud services. Downtime or connectivity issues can disrupt access to cloud services and data. Another disadvantage is the lack of customization it offers. You don’t have as much control over how things are set up compared to having your own hardware and infrastructure.
Leanne Sheely says
Using the cloud can be scary. I use google photos for storing all my photos and I’m always so scared that one day they’ll disappear. I do love the fact that I don’t have to have them all on my phone taking up soo much space. There are definitely pros and cons I agree with that.
Leanne Sheely says
What is a network effect and what are some examples?
First what is a network effect? It is something that gains value the more it is used. Some examples of this could be social media, any type of communication platforms, software platforms, and market places. For social media it could be like Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Snapchat, and etc. For communication platforms it would be like Zoom, Whatsapp, Messages, Skype, and etc. Software platforms are like Microsoft or Apple IOS. Market places is anything you can buy on like Mercari, Ebay, Amazon, Poshmark, and so on. Another bigger example of network effect is the internet. When it was first created there were not too many people on it but once more people starting using it it gained its value. Network effect is kind of what it sounds like but I hope this kind of helps you understand it a little better.
Juan Delgado says
Hi Leanne,
I enjoyed the way you described the network effect. I found it very interesting because I’d never heard of it before this class. I think you explained it well. I also thought it was very interesting to see that the network effect could be social media.
Darren Nolan says
We have very similar takes on the networking effect and I’m glad I got the concept down right.
Elena Grigoryan says
API, or Application Processing Interface, is something of a communication software between programs or its components. It allows two applications to talk to each other, extract and share data, and so on. Examples are all around us. Ridesharing apps, meal ordering service, text messages, weather app or thermostat on your phone, all of these are examples of an API. Once you place your delivery order on UberEats, the app sends your information to the restaurant, where meal is prepared, and a delivery driver is found. Sometime later, the order is at your door. APIs work to make this whole thing possible.
APIs are very valuable in today’s world. I think the first advantage to come to mind would be ease and convenience that APIs bring. Thinking back to food delivery example, you can order that meal without as much as leaving the couch. APIs are also great for businesses. Easy, quick transactions are appealing to new and existing clients. APIs also make it possible to have access to the business via mobile device. Business can expand internationally. These are just some of the benefits of application processing interfaces.
Lesly Puma Vinansaca says
Hi Elena
I also agree that APIs are very useful in today’s world with your great example of food delivery. The world as we know it is changing for the better with the integration of APIs.
Juan Delgado says
What are the pros and cons of cloud computing? One pro is that it is really easy to use. When you put something into the cloud like a video or photo, it can be used by other devices. It can be on your smartphone and then can also be on your computer. Another pro of cloud computing is the cost. Save things into the cloud it is way cheaper than finding an alternative. Also saving your work into another device would be a lot more work. A con of cloud computing would be availability. A cloud doesn’t have a lot of availability and can rack up a lot of data quickly. When the cloud fills up to its capacity, if you want more storage then you have to pay for it. Another con of cloud computing would be security. The cloud isn’t protected with anything except a username and a password. If your password is easy to guess, then your cloud could get hacked easily and all of the information within the cloud could get wiped away forever.
Maurice Chism says
I agree with your statements. I really agree with the statement for your cons. I have had moments where what I wanted to access that was on a cloud based platform was not available. It costed me was relationships because of the nature of the document.
Georgios Zisis says
Hi Juan,
I liked the examples of pros and cons you gave. One thing I found interesting was that you mentioned storage as a con. I think paying as you go is actually a pro. Instead of paying for a bunch of storage up front, you can pay for more storage when you need more. I especially agree on your con of security. Although after doing some research, it seems that cloud computing usually encrypts your data.
Maurice Chism says
What are the differences between SaaS, PaaS, IaaS?
The differences between Saas, Paas, and SaaS are:
SaaS – Is the software/application that is used for an user. It is primarily a cloud based software where it does not require any type of installation nor downloads. Which also mean it frees up hard drive space on the users device.
PaaS – Is the platform that the SaaS is housed. So as a developer, PaaS is used for software creation. This allows developers the freedom on developing the environment for the software and not so concerned of compatibility issues that arises with installation on physical devices.
IaaS – is the foundation for creating SaaS and PaaS. It provides the infrastructure that allows developers to monitor their resources and allows businesses to purchase what is needed when it is needed versus trying to to pre plan what is required.
Hawa Barry says
Hi Maurice,
This is a very clear breakdown of each cloud service, thank you!
Georgios Zisis says
Cloud computing lets people store data through the internet instead of on physical hardware. This lets people access this data from anywhere that has internet access. The convenience of cloud computing can also be its downfall. If people store all their data in the cloud then there is inherent risk to losing it all of together. There were two questions that came to mind while reading the articles. One of those questions is, is cloud computing safe? And the other question is, do you really own anything that is on the cloud? I’ll use Google cloud as an example. Google cloud is a public cloud that stores your information and everyone else information together. This makes Google a large target for potential hackers, which could put your data in jeopardy. If you are using a public cloud then is that data really your own? Based on some initial research I did, cloud data seems to be encrypted by default. And Google claims that you own your own data, and they do not sell customer data to third parties for advertising.
Cristina Valentin says
Hi Georgios,
I agree that the idea of all of our data being stored on the cloud can make me think about how it would all be readily available if the servers were hacked. However, there is kind of no choice because the storage is so convenient especially for pictures etc. versus storing on a physical hardrive, so it is a risk worth taking.
Rachel Bard says
I like the question you raised “do you really own anything that is on the cloud?” and I have the same mental dilemma. It almost feels like a tricky clause in a contract. It also gives banking energy. You put the money in the bank, and they say the money is in your account, but they still invest it themselves, yet it remains “your money”. I also raise the question that, do you want someone like Google to have all of that information about you, easily available through the cloud. Like professor said, most hacks come from the inside. What if someone from Google accidentally hits one wrong link with your account pulled up?
Cristina Valentin says
What are the differences between SaaS, PaaS, IaaS?
All three options of cloud services have their advantages. Software as a Service (SaaS) seems to be the option that has the least involvement from the client perspective. Is is basically software that is already developed and rolled out to the client with most of the pertinent functions already included. This type of cloud service is also maintained by the vendor themselves so that clients do not have to worry about updates or any technical issues.
Platform as a Service (PaaS) is the middle option, it comes with a temple on which a client can build their application. Therefore, the client does have some control over the functions they would like to develop. However, there is still the availability of the vendor providing technical assistance and storage capabilities for the application.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) seems to be the option that a client would select if they would prefer the most creative control over their application or platform. This option allows clients to select particular components that they feel are best suited to their needs without purchasing an entire ready made software. Their servers and databases are still kept on the cloud, however, clients are able to directly access this information and have control over their applications.
Lesly Puma Vinansaca says
Hi Cristina
I liked how your explanation of the differences between the three cloud services showcased their advantages. This has helped me to further gain an understanding of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS.
Rachel Bard says
What are the pros and cons of Cloud computing?
The pros of cloud computing include access for easier collaboration, an ease of use, and cheaper cost. My job uses a form of cloud computing, we have different drives that have access to different types of folders and documents. I cannot disagree that a main pro for cloud computing is ease of use.
Now for the cons, potential cons of cloud computing are a lack of data integrity, availability, privacy. My personal main con of cloud computing is security. I had raised the question in class about when contracting a cloud computing service for your organization, the need for good lawyers to comb through those contracts and get down to the nitty gritty of intellectual property. My fear of cloud computing is the potential for ideas to be stolen and used as someone else’s.
I told my friend one day I want to make a t-shirt that says, “I’m not a cloud girlie, but an external hard drive girlie”. And I stand by that, my inner conspiracy theorist is still so hesitant to trust and rely on cloud computing.
Cheyanne Kostaras-Nesbitt says
Hi Rachel.
Security is a big concern for me as well and is a big con for me as well. Intellectual property is already a very slippery slope and can be hard to protect. I love the shirt ideas also. Very creative!

They are the necessary bridge between different departments within a business, design teams, and technology experts. They oversee and manage all tasks through all stages of development from concepts to launch. Their task isn’t easy from leading the entire teams, communicating with the stakeholders and investors (if needed) and overseeing the project from start to finish and every step along the way. It goes without saying these individuals must be quick learners and able to easily adapt to ever changing needs of the market for which they are involved, as their tasks aren’t easy.

Pros and cons to cloud computing
The pros of cloud computing are the collaboration, scalability cost and ease of use. The cons of cloud computing are security, data integrity, availability, and privacy. At the end of the day the pros and cons can be weighed by personal preference. Although they can be less costly, data integrity and privacy are a huge part of building trust with a company. In my opinion, if the data that is being using isn’t even true or hold integrity that what is the point?
Elena Grigoryan says
Cloud computing is very easy to use, as you mentioned, especially for large amounts of data that would be shared. On a personal level, many people are using cloud storage, since it can hold the thousands of pictures and videos that people record. I used to back up photos and videos I’d like to save on a hard drive until there came an easier way to store it, the cloud. Cloud storage is a very convenient tool and you can back up all your data without taking time to manually back it all up on a hard drive. So yeah, cloud computing is very convenient!

Who are product managers and what do they do?
Product managers in a business are responsible for overseeing the entire life cycle of a product or service. Using input from internal and external sources, product managers bring a product or service to life. The product manager’s role in an organization or business begins with the planning of a product. They are the strategic thinkers within the organization, creating visions, goals, and roadmaps for the product or service. They also focus on the product strategy to distribute, sell, and gather customer feedback. They oversee all activities relating to research, design, and marketing of products.

What are the differences between SaaS, PaaS, IaaS?
SaaS
– software that helps businesses or consumers
– provider manages all aspect of the product
– provides software as a service to end-users
– direct control
PaaS
– a platform that allows developers to build apps without having to host them (third-party)
– provides execution environment, application development, and deployment tools
IaaS
– the foundation for creating a cloud-based service
– where the infrastructure is built
– provides access to resources
Briana Seidle says
Direct control is meant to be under IaaS

What are APIs, and how do APIs build value?
An API is an application programming interface. Basically, it’s just the way two applications or systems communicate with each other. They build value significantly by being extremely useful and completing necessary jobs. For example, I work for a company in charge of the applications for many permits in my area. API’s are used throughout the application, for the sign-in, confirming personal information, and validating the application. It take’s an API to call each individual database, for one to confirm the sign-in. Another confirm the user’s information is in the system, and one to validate the application has been filled in properly.
It may seem an API is not necessary to do all these things, or that they don’t add that much value. This couldn’t be further from the truth, as dev teams can simply add these to applications to solve numerous issues at once. An API helps applications work more efficiently, but can also help them be more secure so you know your information is safe.
M'Kyah Graham says
This was a great explanation of APIs- very easy to follow. Using the examples of APIs that we tend to see quite often helped to dissect such a new concept. And I agree, although they are not necessary for everything they can make certain interactions much smoother. APIs are a great enhancement to our modern day technology!

What are some methods to protect yourself online?
To protect myself online, there are basic yet effective measures I can apply. First, create strong and unique passwords for the accounts I have and update them regularly. Active two factor authentication whenever possible to add an extra layer of security. I’m always clicking on the links or downloading attachments, especially from unknown sources. Keeping my software antivirus and up to date, avoid sharing personal information on public forums and adjust privacy settings on social media. I try to monitor my account often for any suspicious activity and users reputable security tools. Lastly, there are a lot of online scams and phishing techniques to be cautious about to avoid the potential threats. I think these simple practices can significantly enhance my online safety.
Samir Lagouit says
Hi Mahbuba,
I think it’s important to constantly monitor all your accounts. However, as we have found in this class there are many tools that can monitor our accounts better than us. I find these tools so beneficial, as anything suspicious (even when its me in another location) comes back to me as a warning. This may be annoying after a while and it seems you’re your own biggest threat. However, the tool is very useful and I do not regret using it ever.
Mahbuba Ahmed says
**************What is a network effect and what are some examples?*************
A network effect refers to the phenomenon where the value of the product or service increases as more people use it. In a simpler term, the more users a network has, the more valuable it becomes for each user. This positive feedback helps to increase growth and enhance the overall experience. For example, social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram. They are great examples of network effects, as more individuals join these platforms, the more opportunities for social interactions, content sharing, and network connections multiply, making the platforms more attractive. Similarly, messaging apps like WhatsApp and communication tools like email also increase network effects, where their usefulness escalates with a growing user base, creating a self-reinforcing cycle of adoption and value.
Salvatore Marsico says
Hi Mahbuba,
I enjoyed reading your post about a network effect and the examples. It furthered my understanding of the topic and was able to learn more. Social media platforms are definitely an example of a network effect and the more people go to a social media platform further the value of the product.
Madison Masino says
Hi Mahbuba,
I think it is interesting that the more users a network has the more valuable it becomes. I agree that we see this daily with sites like linkedin, instagram and even tiktok. The more following you have or the bigger the “reach” you can increase your business by that.
Salvatore Marsico says
A network effect describes a kind of ecosystem where an increased number of people or participants better the value of a good or service. An example of a network effect is the internet in itself. As the internet began to grow and more and more people began to use it and create their content and websites; it created more flow of traffic. This means the content the participants made on the internet drew more people to it and furthered the value of the internet. Another example would be social media which is ironically on the internet. On social media, people again create content on a platform that incentivizes creativity which again, draws more people to the network. The more popular the social media platform grows, the more people it will attract and attend. Another example would be the telephone, which grew vastly in the 20th century. Specifically, the Blackberry and the iPhone attracted billions of people to the network of cell phones.
Hamida Akther says
Hi Salvatore,
You gave a great answer to what is a network effect. I agree that since more users had access to internet, they produced more content, information, and services which increased the participants and made more good/services.
Ereny Abousaif says
Hi Salvatore,
Your explanation of what a network impact is was excellent. I concur that as more people had access to the the net, they created more services, information, and material, which in turn led to a rise in participants and the production of more goods and services.

What is a network effect and what are some examples?
The network effect is a business theory which states that the more people engage with a product, service, or platform the better it gets. This is particularly true for digital platforms such as Amazon. Amazon takes advantage of the network effect by inviting many retailers to sell on their platform. As more retailers decide to join, more consumers will look to Amazon to shop, therefore improving the overall value of Amazon.
Corey Reagan says
Amazon is probably the king at the network effect, along with Facebook as well. What Jeff Bezos has done with that company is really inspiring. Thanks for the post!
Daniel Taylor says
Hey Max I love your example of Amazon when it comes to this topic another one I could think of would be eBay as they invites sellers as well to sell their products on their website.

Hey Lesley!
Thank you for breaking down product managers and how crucial they are, and what position they play!
M'Kyah Graham says
When initially learning about digital platforms, my mind swayed more towards social media forums. A place to interact socially with people- share and view videos and pictures, leave comments, likes, etc. But digital platforms are digital systems that facilitate business communications or interactions. For example, if I were to want to sell a product, my digital platform would allow communication between myself and my customers. They could be able to browse purchase options, place orders and get in touch with me regarding sales transactions. Digital platforms are ideal for maintaining a connection between businesses and their consumers, and building an audience. A surprising example of digital platforms were dating apps, which helped to further broaden my understanding. Dating apps go on to show how versatile digital platforms are- they can be used to facilitate communication for all types of reasons. Digital systems may serve to be useful in some way to many industries.
Max Smith says
Hi M’Kyah
I really agree with the points you made regarding digital platforms, specifically how social media platforms link businesses to their consumers. In addition, digital platforms such as dating apps (platforms I had not considered myself), really display the versatility of digital platforms.
Erica Griggs says
Hey M’kyah!
I believe social media rang a bell in both of our heads, in correlation to digital platforms!

What are APIs, and how do APIs build value?
An API is an Application Programming Interface. It is a mechanism that connects two computer software components to communicate and to contract for data interaction. It facilitates interactions between front and backend IT systems which are known as Web APIs. APIs ensure the data extracted from one software application is formatted and passed to the next application securely and accurately. They allow two applications to communicate and share data with each other using a set of definitions and protocols. API’s is a strategic business imperative because it extracts more value from existing assets. Drive new innovations. Makes easier access across multiple ecosystems. API’s are products which are like building blocks to the software system. API’s build value by connecting with businesses, individuals, and machines in a new digital thread. API is the digital transformation strategy of any business which is why it creates value. Since it easily transforms data, enables multi cloud strategy, and accelerates time to market. It helps businesses to operate with greater efficiency and agility.

What is a network effect and what are some examples?
A phenomenon known as the “network effect” occurs when a product or service’s value rises with an increase in consumers or participants. knowledge the dynamics of different technology platforms and marketplaces requires a knowledge of this fundamental idea. Direct and indirect network impacts are the two primary categories.
When more individuals use the same good or service, direct network effects—also referred to as same-side network effects—occur when the value of the good or service rises for current customers. This effect can be seen in social networks such as Facebook, where more users join the platform and the more connections and interactions they may have, the more valuable the platform becomes to the users. Direct network effects are also seen in messaging programs like WhatsApp, where a growing user base improves the possibility for conversation among current users.
When more members of a separate group use a product or service, it creates value for that group of users. This phenomenon is known as indirect network effects, or cross-side network effects. Indirect network effects, in which more customers draw in more sellers and vice versa to create a loop that reinforces itself, as demonstrated by online marketplaces such as eBay.
Because platforms with bigger user bases typically have a competitive advantage that makes it difficult for new entrants to establish themselves, network effects play a significant role in defining the competitive environment. Businesses working in the digital age must recognize and take advantage of network effects, which have a significant impact on market dynamics and strategic choices.

Ereny,
Your post correctly identifies direct and indirect network effects, providing clear examples such as Facebook and WhatsApp for direct effects, and eBay for indirect effects. This helps in understanding that the value of a product or service increases with the number of users or participants is crucial for businesses operating in today’s interconnected world.

What are the pros and cons of Cloud computing?
On the positive side, cloud computing provides unparalleled scalability, allowing businesses to easily adjust their resources based on demand. This flexibility often translates to cost savings, as companies can pay for only the resources they use, eliminating the need for expensive on-premises infrastructure. Additionally, cloud computing facilitates remote work, enabling employees to access data and applications from anywhere with an internet connection, fostering collaboration and productivity.
However, there are also drawbacks to consider. Security concerns loom large in the cloud, as businesses entrust sensitive data to third-party providers. Without robust security measures in place, data breaches and unauthorized access can occur. Furthermore, reliance on the internet means cloud services are susceptible to outages, potentially disrupting business operations.

What is a network effect and what are some examples?
A network effect is a occurrence in which the value of a product or service increases as more people use it. Basically, the more users a network has, the more valuable it becomes to each individual user. Network effects are a main driver of growth and success for many tech companies, social networking platforms, and other businesses that rely on network effects to attract and retain users. The most well known example of this has got to be Facebook. As more people join Facebook and connect with friends, family, and colleagues, the platform becomes more valuable to each user because they have more time to communicate, share content, and engage with friends and family. Facebook’s network effect has made it one of the largest social networking platforms in the world, with over 2.8 billion monthly active users as of 2021.

What are the pros and cons of Cloud computing?
A pro of cloud computing is reducing cost; for example, in the case of Netflix, it cut out the mid-man, such as the big box stores with a lot of overhead. this made customers gravitate to them and move away from Blockbuster because it was abusing their customers with fees such as rewind fees. In other cases, such as Kodak, the cost of a camera and developing the film have been taken off the table because of cloud saving. A con of cloud computing is that the database of information is vulnerable to data corruption and the info could held for ransomware. Clouds are so dependent on the internet.

What are the pros and cons of Cloud computing?
Firstly, cloud computing is entities share a network of servers. The servers are hosted on the internet which allows people to save to the cloud instead of a local server. The pros of cloud computing are keeping your data stored somewhere easily accessible, consolidate your data, stay within monetary range (paying for only what you need), save space and enhance compliance. Some cons are not having enough control, slower back up and restore, and internet reliance and use. Cloud can be very beneficial to store data in as it used essentially as a back up plan.

What are the pros and cons of Cloud computing?
Pros:
1. collaboration- an ex would be multiple individuals working on the same document in real time
2. scalability- a website can increase its scale to handle an increased capacity to run smoothly
3. cost- companies can use cloud based serves to hold data to minimize operation costs
4. ease of use- user friendly, an owner of a company can track trends or data without any advanced IT skills
Cons:
1. security- if the cloud security is compromised, hackers can gain access to vital, personal data
2. data integrity- an example could be transferring files to a cloud storage and the files get corrupted. now when attempting to open those files, it will read as error
3. availability- network issues can affect or interrupt the service
4. privacy- if data or private confidential information is stored in the cloud and is easily accessible, this violates the privacy of those individuals whose information is stored

Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are prime examples of network effects; as more people sign up, more connections and interactions are possible, enhancing the platform’s overall usefulness. Similar to this, network effects help online marketplaces like eBay and Airbnb, where an increase in buyers draws in sellers and expands the range of products and services available to consumers. Network effects are also seen in operating systems like iOS and Android, where an increase in app developers leads to an increase in users and an increase in the ecosystem’s value.

Hi Hadeer,
The security concerns are very scary. I don’t know that I would ever trust myself to open my own business as I imagine I would be hacked immediately. My work is pushing data privacy and phishing emails lately. I feel like it’s only a matter of time until large companies have a data breach.
Kerri McGuckin says
Product Managers are responsible for the entire lifecycle of a product or service. This includes product development, strategy, and the success of the project. Product managers are used in a variety of work fields including engineering, design, customer access, sales, marketing, operations, finance, legal… etc. They own all of the decisions on the creation process of a product or service.
There are a lot of teams that could work under a product manager and it is the product manager’s responsibility to see that they all function together. Teams that would be under a product manager could include engineering, design, data and analytics. Each team is crucial to the success of the product.
The Product Manager role of today is very different than it was in the past, the role in the past focussed on delivering a product by a specific deadline. Today, the product manager functions like a mini-CEO. The role is likely to continue changing a few years and will continue to adapt to the needs of the role. It is said that product managers will become more reliant on data.

Digital platforms facilitate commercial interactions between two groups, typically for audience building, matchmaking, and providing core tools and services. A good example of this is Uber or GrubHUb. Cloud computing is utilizing cloud based services such as for infrastructure, platofrming, or software. Cloud services do well at promoting collaboration, easily accessible, and are cost efficient, but they also present risk for stable security, data integrity, and privacy. Infrasture as a service (IaaS) provide resources as a service and allow for multiple users on a single piece of hardware; these are more customer oriented and do well at bringing products to the market quickly. Platform as a service (PasS) provides services to assist with development, testing, and deployment of applications; these are accessible to multiple users on the same app and integrates web services and databases. It’s good for streamlining work flows and including multiple vendors, as well as creating custom apps. Finally, software as a service (SaaS) provide the ability to hold data in a centralized location on a remote server. It’s widely internet accessible and maintenance of hardware and software is not user responsibility. These services usually have a reduced risk of piracy as well.

What are the pros and cons of Cloud computing?
Here are the few things I discovered while research this question as a pro for Cloud computing is the lowers IT ops costs because the cloud provider manages the underlying infrastructure, including hardware and software. Which is something I reply on heavily at my job. A big con I discovered was that files are easy to store but not as simple to recover and download. This is a big one as I had to recently buy a external hardware drive and move all my files there instead of using the cloud for downloads.

Pros and cons to cloud computing
There are many pros and cons of cloud computing. The pros of cloud computing are the collaborations. In additional pro is scalability. Finally some pros are cost and ease of use. The cost and easy of use is an important pro for any business looking to keep expenses low. The cons of cloud computing are security, data integrity, availability, and privacy. At the end of the day the pros and cons can be weighed by personal preference. Although they can be less costly, data integrity and privacy are a huge part of building trust with a company. In my opinion, if the data that is being using is not even true or hold integrity that what is the point?
