Which coding language adds design elements to a web page?
CSS which stands for Cascading Style sheets provides design style for a website. With CSS you can control the color, font and the size of the text. You can use it to position the background elements and images. Even though there are some elements that can be created in HTML, CSS takes it and makes it stand out and more pleasing to the eye.
Ajibola Sode says
Hey Maurice,
Definitely, CSS is a potent resource that can improve the aesthetic value and ease of use of websites. It’s remarkable how it allows for such precise management of the display of web pages, turning simple HTML into visually compelling and intuitive interfaces. I value the flexibility of CSS, as it encompasses a wide range of elements such as typography, layout, and animations that collectively result in a more cohesive and interactive user experience.
Colin Johnson says
Maurice,
The use of CSS will help when getting more familiar with HTML and what it can and cannot do. Thorough knowledge of HTML will help identify what CSS can provide when programming. I am glad we are learning different coding languages in the same course, showing us the highlights of what each can accomplish.
Lancelot Nyandoro says
you are right, Maurice; CSS has really helped me to become proficient in using JavaScript and HTML. I always thought code was hard. but I know better now
Corey Reagan says
Maurice,
I agree that CSS makes a page stand out and definitely more pleasing to the eye as well. I enjoy designing the different elements to a web page using CSS. I enjoyed your post on this and thanks for breaking it down a little bit.

Why is JavaScript event-driven?
JavaScript is event driven because its execution model relies on events and call backs. The flow of the program is determined by events like user action, notifications, instead of following a linear sequence of execution. Events need to occur for the program to respond. Factor include, browser environment, asynchronous operations, DOM events, and event listener.
Danylo Pidkova says
Hi Zarmina,
JavaScript is event-driven because it listens for events. So, when you click a button, it triggers a specific action. This makes JavaScript responsive and interactive. It’s like the program is waiting for you to do something before it does its thing.
Jenna Oldroyd says
Hi Zarmina,
Great post! JavaScript is event-driven programming because it will wait for an event to happen before it continues executing, such as the user’s actions.
Lancelot Nyandoro says
Yes, the JavaScript would not be able to work without the events; it would end up just a loop. your website that is kind of like a countdown site. the boring kind
Mairaliz Negron says
Hi Zarmina,
Your explanation of how JavaScript is event driven makes it easy to understand. Instantly I thought of an arcade game being an example, the flow of the program is determined by events like a user clicking certain buttons.
Samir Lagouit says
Zarmina,
The way you described the execution model, and the way it relies on events and call backs helped me understand it much more. The importance of the flow of program rather the linear sequence cannot be understated. I really appreciate the way you broke this down.

AI, There are three main types of artificial intelligence:
Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): This type of AI is focused on specific tasks and has somewhat narrow range of abilities. All chatbots that we may heard of, such as Chat GPT, Microsoft Bing AI, DALLE, or Presentations.AI are still great examples of ANI. Other examples include virtual assistants like Amazon Alexa or Apple’s Siri, which can answer questions, set reminders, and play music.
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): AGI aims to copy human intelligence and behavior and is capable of understanding and learning any intellectual task that a human can. This type of AI has not been achieved yet, but it’s often seen in science fiction.
Artificial Superintelligence (ASI): ASI surpasses human intelligence and abilities in every way. It can outperform humans in every task and is considered hypothetical at this point. Overall AI is becoming a very helpful tool in the last year or so and everyone should be using it.

Corey Reagan says
Danylo,
That was a great post on A.I. and I enjoyed reading all of what you had to say. I have to say that A.I. does scare me a little bit, especially with the technological leaps that most likely will happen in my lifetime. The places that this technology can take us is limitless by humankind needs to be careful with this technology and not take it to a place where we can not come back from.
Jenna Oldroyd says
Hi Danylo,
Great explanation of the three types of artificial intelligence! It is unbelievable how advanced we are in technology to only be at ANI. I’m excited to see what the future holds for artificial intelligence and what products and services will be developed.
Zarmina Khan says
Danylo, your examples of Ai are very insightful. To understand these new systems fully, will definitely take time, but it’s a scary road ahead, in my opinion. Creating systems in our daily lives that will aid in our own potential I can agree with but AI that is designed to take out towns or homes, for military use is definitely something I am good off of.

Madison Masino says
Hi Colin,
I think it is important to understand html and why we need to use it when developing because it’s used for almost every website: which as you said defines elements of the page.
Zarmina Khan says
Colin, by creating tags and attributes, the use of HTML is super helpful whether its in business, medicine, or licensing. HTML, as you said, creates the foundation for which other systems can thrive on as well as create new things with. Like sauces in cooking, they all have foundations that have not been tampered with for centuries, all creating new sauces.

Why is JavaScript event-driven?
JavaScript is event-driven because it operates based on events triggered by user interactions or system events rather than following a linear sequence of execution. This approach allows JavaScript to respond dynamically to user actions, such as clicks, mouse movements, keyboard inputs, or changes in the state of the web page.
Event-driven programming enables developers to create responsive web applications by attaching event handlers to specific elements or actions. When an event occurs, the associated event handler function is executed, allowing developers to define custom behaviors or responses.
Hawa Barry says
Hi Colin,
I liked how you further elaborated on event-driven programming outside of JS and tied it back. Helpful!

Which coding language adds structure to a web page?
One of the most essential aspects of web development is adding structure to a web page. This structure is what allows web pages to be visually appealing, easy to navigate, and user-friendly. One coding language that plays a crucial role in adding structure to a web page is HTML. HTML, which stands for HyperText Markup Language, is the standard language used to create the structure of a web page. It is a language that uses tags to define the different elements of a web page, such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, images, and more. By using these tags, developers can organize and format the content on a web page in a way that is clear and organized.

Which coding language adds functionality to a web page?
When it comes to adding functionality to a web page, one coding language stands out above the rest: JavaScript. JavaScript is a versatile programming language that allows developers to create interactive and dynamic web pages that engage users and enhance the overall user experience. One of the main reasons why JavaScript is so effective at adding functionality to a web page is its ability to manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM). The DOM is a representation of the structure of a web page, and JavaScript allows developers to access and modify elements within the DOM, such as text, images, and buttons. This allows developers to create interactive elements on a web page, such as dropdown menus, sliders, and pop-up windows.

JavaScript is the coding language that adds functionality to a web page. As a versatile and widely-used scripting language, JavaScript is primarily executed on the client side, meaning it runs within the user’s web browser. Its main role is to enhance the interactivity and dynamic behavior of web pages, allowing developers to manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) and respond to user actions. JavaScript enables the creation of features such as form validation, interactive forms, image sliders, real-time updates, and much more. Its ability to communicate with servers through AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) also facilitates the retrieval and manipulation of data without requiring a full page reload. In combination with HTML and CSS, JavaScript forms an integral part of the trio commonly used for web development, providing the necessary tools to create engaging and responsive user interfaces.

Why is JavaScript event-driven?
Event-driven programming is an essential part of programming with JavaScript. It is a programming method in which the program’s flow is fixed on events that occur. The program will wait for an event to happen before it continues executing. JavaScript is event-driven because it reacts to the events that the user’s interactions can trigger, such as pressing a key or clicking the mouse. Event-driven programming makes the software responsive to the user’s interactions.

HTML is responsible for the structure of a web page. HTML, otherwise known as Hypertext Markup Language, is considered relatively simple and one of the most common languages. The standard markup language allows us to create the starting point of our web page while using less code. HTML defines a web page’s structure and layout through labeling. HTML uses tags to define elements, such as headings, paragraphs, images, links, etc.

JavaScript or JS is a programming language made up of English-looking words arranged in a particular way to tell your browser to do something. The purpose of JavaScript is to enable users to create dynamic content, control all kinds of multimedia, animate graphics, and really anything else that is web based. JavaScript is interactive or “Event Driven” and waits for the user to do something and then executes the code. By using HTML, JavaScript is able to get access to the information typed on the form then CSS is used to specify how that information will be presented to users of the webpage. All three coding languages are commonly used together for web development and interactive user interfaces. Without that concrete slab, the house will be unable to stand without sliding away. HTML is an extremely important aspect of coding. It usually is built upon by JavaScript, which adds the functionality to a webpage. JavaScript is considered event-driven due to its architecture, which revolves around events and event handlers. This programming is particularly well-suited for web development, where user interaction and browser events play a central role. In the web environment, JavaScript responds to various events such as clicks, mouse movements, and keyboard inputs triggered by users interacting with web pages or applications. This architecture not only enables high interactivity and responsiveness in web applications but also promotes loose coupling between different components, fostering modular and maintainable code.

Hi Lesly,
I enjoyed reading your post about the different coding languages such as CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. Each has its own purposes but also plays fundamental roles when creating a web page. I think your answer demonstrates the differences perfectly and becomes very easy to understand.
Erica Griggs says
Hey Lesly!
That was a really good take on coding language!
Salvatore Marsico says
There are mainly three coding languages, each with its own responsibility to bring a web page alive instead of just seeing code. The coding language that adds structure to a web page is called HTML, which stands for Hypertext Markup Language. HTML defines the material in the structure such as the elements and the layout. This allows the web page to adapt to the code and interpret and display content. The HTML coding language is often referred to as the backbone of web pages because it is extremely fundamental to web development. The coding language that add functionality to a web page is called JavaScript. This coding language is used to create or add the interactive parts to a web page. There are many different possibilities with JavaScript such as creating dynamic content and asynchronous communication between the user and server. You will see JavaScript is widely used around the world because of the front-end development.
Salvatore Marsico says
There are three mainly used coding languages as previously mentioned, but the coding language that adds design elements to a web page is CSS. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets and it is used to style as the name suggests the HTML elements and define the layout. Some may view this as the most important coding language because it controls all of the colorful visuals on a web page such as colors, fonts, spacing, and responsiveness. All of these aspects of a webpage enhance the visual presentation of websites and are essential when designing and creating consistent and aesthetically pleasing web pages for users. JavaScript is event-driven because of its asynchronous coding nature. This means JavaScript can be written without having to wait for any other event or code to be finished or completed.
Erica Griggs says
Hey Salvatore!
Really great differentiation on coding languages!

HTML: The Builder of Webpage Structure
Ever wondered how websites get their organized look? Well, meet HTML – the coding language that adds the structure to web pages.
Think of HTML like the architect of the internet. It uses tags (those pointy brackets you see) to label different parts of a page, like titles, paragraphs, and images. It’s basically the recipe that browsers follow to display a webpage just right.
Imagine trying to read a book without paragraphs or chapters – chaos, right? HTML prevents that chaos on the web. It gives us the framework to arrange text, images, and links in a way that makes sense.
So, as we tackle the MIS world, remember, HTML is the behind-the-scenes hero, making sure our favorite websites look neat and organized. It might not be flashy, but it’s the key to web harmony!
Erica Griggs says
Understanding the Event-Driven Nature of JavaScript
Hey everyone,
For our last week let’s talk about why JavaScript is considered event-driven in our MIS class. JavaScript’s event-driven nature stems from its ability to respond to user actions or events on a webpage, such as clicks, keystrokes, or mouse movements. Unlike traditional procedural programming, JavaScript doesn’t follow a linear execution path. Instead, it employs event listeners to wait for specific events and triggers corresponding functions when those events occur.
This paradigm enhances user interaction and experience by allowing the program to respond dynamically to user inputs. Think of it like a waiter at a restaurant – they don’t constantly check if you need something; they wait for your signal (event) and then respond accordingly. Similarly, JavaScript waits for user interactions, creating a more responsive and interactive web environment. Understanding this event-driven model is crucial for designing effective and engaging web applications.
Looking forward to your thoughts on this!
Have a great semester everyone!
Elena Grigoryan says
Another upbeat explanation! Great example with event driven waiter responding to signals!
Leanne Sheely says
Which coding language adds design elements to a web page?
To start off I want to mention multiple coding languages can add design elements to a web page. It really depends upon what type of design you want to do to your web page. If you want to add special font design to your page I’d suggest CSS. CSS is the language you’d use to set up your background, page layout, fonts, colors, and anything like that you can think of. CSS is consider the main technology to use. If you would like to do something that is more in depth type of design such as designing a game or software you would want to use Java. This is a little confusing but Java and JavaScript are not actually the same. Moral of this is if you want to add more flavor to your web page make sure you use CSS because it’ll be very useful to you. Hope this helps and makes sense to you!
Leanne Sheely says
Why is JavaScript event-driven?
First what is JavaScript? JavaScript is one of the best languages to use when developing a website. You are able to always have code running with JavaScript. It is called event-driven because it waits on the user to move forward. An example of this is when you go onto a website and it has a prompt for you to fill out something and once you do it asks for something else or it will tell you something. JavaScfipt is user friendly and requires someone taking action that is why it is called event-driven. Hope this helps and you all have a great rest of your semester!
Eduard Lagutin says
Hello Leanne,
I like that you described JavaScript and what it is used for before answering the question because it can give a lot of people a point of reference and some baseline knowledge of it. You explanation was great as well and very informative.

7(a): Which coding language adds structure to a web page?
HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language, is the foundational code for constructing the structure of a webpage. It acts as a set of instructions that browsers utilize to interpret and display content systematically. Image HTML as the blueprint of a website, where various tags such as ‘ for heading, ‘’ for paragraphs, and ‘’ for images serve as building blocks. Each tag defines a specific element, contributing to the overall organization and layout of the content. So, when you open a webpage and see a title at the top, followed by paragraphs and images in a systematic order, it’s HTML quietly working behind the scenes, ensuring everything is in its right place and making the webpage user-friendly and visually structured.
Juan Delgado says
Hi Mahbuba,
I enjoyed your discussion post because this was one of the topics that was confusing me during the lecture. I read another post similar to this, but I enjoyed yours because of how in-depth you went with HTML. While reading your discussion post, HTML made more sense to me after the lecture. I think that this was a very good post.

7(b): Which coding language adds design elements to a web page?
In web development, the addition of design elements to a webpage is commonly achieved through the combined use of HTML and CSS. HTML, or the Hypertext Markup Language, lays out the fundamental structure and content of the webpage, defining elements such as headings, paragraphs, images and links. Acting as the foundation, HTML essentially provides the framework. Similarly, CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, is the visual presentation of the webpage. It enables the manipulation of colors, fonts, spacing, and overall layout, contributing to a more visually appealing and orderly design. In essence, HTML serves as the desired aesthetic and user experience on the webpage. This collaborative use of HTML and CSS forms the core approach to incorporating design elements and ensuring a polished appearance for websites across the internet.

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the common markup language for creating web pages. In addition, HTML makes up the overall structure and layout for your website. Using HTML allows users to create a stylized website for much less code. While HTML is not a programming language, it is the starting point for website development.
Juan Delgado says
Hi Max,
I like how you explained the concept of HTML. This was the one that confused me during the lecture, but now after reading this post, I understand more clearly about this topic. I just think that this was a very well-written discussion post.
Max Smith says
Which coding language adds functionality to a web page?
JavaScript is one of the most popular coding languages that adds functionality to a web page. JavaScript is the language used to add interactive elements to a website. JavaScript is platform-independent, speeds up your website, and provides a simple and tasteful website interface.
Cristina Valentin says
Hi Max,
This was a good explanation of JavaScript and its functionality.
Cristina Valentin says
Which coding language adds design elements to a web page?
The coding language that adds design elements to a web page is CSS. Using this coding, you can add multiple different elements to a page to make it look more inviting. The changes that can be made can vary from font style, color and the arrangement of the page in general. Adding these types of additions can make the website both functional but enticing for the user.
Briana Seidle says
Hi Cristina,
You explained these in a great way. I was having difficulty comprehending this topic, but your explanation helped clarify it for my understanding.
Mairaliz Negron says
Hi Cristina,
Great explanation of what CSS is. I find it to be an important factor of a web page because visual representations can affect user engagement.
Cristina Valentin says
Which coding language adds functionality to a web page?
The coding language that adds functionality to a web page is JavaScript. Without this coding, websites wouldn’t function the way they are supposed to. JavaScript provides that background instructions that tell the web page what it should do and when by using multiple commands. This type of code is event driven because it relies on the users actions to know what code to execute next.
Lancelot Nyandoro says
Which coding language adds structure to a web page?
HTML adds structure to the website, and what would be the structure in this context is much like writing an essay or telling a story from the beginning. It starts with the HTML, which is the root element of the site; this could be considered the title of the story. Then we have the head; just like an essay, the introduction is housed here, and the setting of the website is put in this area. The body is just like the name implies; this is where you put most of the functions of the website. Things like pictures, word stories, videos, and other web reactions are located. And just like a good story, essay, movie, or book, we have to have a conclusion that would be put in the lower head after the body and close with style. The coding of the website can become more complicated or complex when you add CCS.
Eduard Lagutin says
Hello Lancelot,
I agree that HTML add the structure to a webpage. I have answered the same. I like your example that when you code in HTML it is like writing an essay, great analogy.
Great job!

Which coding language adds design elements to a web page?
CSS which stands for Cascading Style Structure and is the coding language that adds design elements to a webpage. CSS can edit font types, color, size, and so much more. I liked the activity in class of changing the color of our codes font. I discovered that you don’t necessarily have to write in a color. For example, in class I wanted a lavender colored font, but when I typed in lavender, it wasn’t quite the shade I was looking for. I found out you can click on the box next to the color, that displays the shade of lavender and it brings up and RGB sliding scale and you can adjust to whatever color you like. But then when you exit the RGB sliders it changes the name of the color, in my case in changed it to “rgb(99, 99, 221);” which gave me the perfect shade of purple.
Briana Seidle says
Hey Rachel,
You gave great examples for this topic. You made it very easy to understand and relate to.
Jorgelina Rodriguez says

Juan Delgado says
Why is JavaScript event-driven? JavaScript is more event-driven because the program is more interactive. It wants the user to do something so that it can spew out the code. It wants it to be more interactive so the user can learn something using JavaScript. If the user didn’t have to do anything for JavaScript to spew out the code, then there wouldn’t be a need to have JavaScript. Also, no user would learn anything by using JavaScript then. To be more event-driven in anything will help a person way more in life than not doing it. Being event-driven will help a person learn something because they are hands-on with the activity. Having JavaScript be hands-on is helpful for that very same reason. Trying to figure out situations and then getting all of the solutions back from JavaScript will benefit a person. Also, we wouldn’t be able to do any coding challenges if that was the case. There would be no information to put in because JavaScript would’ve already done it for us.
Rachel Bard says
Which coding language adds functionality to a web page?
JavaScript is the coding language that adds functionality to a web page. The more I read and learned about Javascript the more I looked at it like a waterfall puzzle foundation. I feel like we always started a the top and worked our way down. The fun part about JavaScript is that it seems you can add more where ever and whenever you’d like. I saw foundation because it’s like the base layer of a website. It lays the groundwork for CSS or HTML to come in and add their own little flare to the framework of JavaScript. I also use the word puzzle to JavaScript’s definition because at any point you can find a new piece and add to where ever you think it would fit best. It seems like JavaScript is a video game with endless play hours.
Juan Delgado says
Which coding language adds design elements to a web page? The coding language would be CSS. CSS makes the content of your webpage look good. That can include the color, the font size, and the visibility. This can make your webpage look the way the user wants the webpage to look like. This can help users make a website for their company and also can be fun for some people. Using CSS can help people figure out how they want their webpage to look and how it can grab other people’s attention. Grabbing other people’s attention can help your webpage become popular. Making the visibility larger can catch an audience and will grab a bunch of people to look at your webpage. Also, some colors can make people want to look at your webpage. Even though CSS doesn’t seem like a very important step, it can be an important final step in getting your webpage to look to the best of your ability.
Lancelot Nyandoro says
Why is JavaScript event-driven?
JavaScript relies on actions and behaviors in web applications. The actions could be clicking on an item with the web page, making your mouse hover over a word or icon, typing on a keyboard, or typing actions such as control/ alternate key and deleting to induce an action with the software. It is just like making a meal, reading the recipe, getting the ingredients, cooking the meal, and then eating the meal; it is kind of the path of the story, from HTML to head to script to style to the body to head and the end. JavaScript allows web developers to create interactive and dynamic user interfaces. Instead of relying solely on static JavaScript, enabling the developer to respond to actions executed by the user. The events and event handlers, JavaScript facilitates the creation of engaging and responsive web applications, enhancing the overall user experience.

Javascript adds functionality to a web page. This includes validating user input, creating animations, and dynamically updating web pages. Javascript is versatile and is a widely adopted language, as its supported by all major browsers. It is considered the most popular programming language since it runs directly from its source code and doesn’t need to be translated into machine code beforehand. It is also used by programmers to create server-side applications using the runtime environment Node.js, which lets developers write Javascript programs for operating system like macOS and Windows.

Developers rely on HTML to establish the framework of a webpage encompassing headings, paragraphs, lists, links, images and other essential components. This language is pivotal for crafting structured and semantically rich web pages. Furthermore HTML collaborates closely with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript to elevate the appeal and functionality of websites underscoring its significance as a core skill, for web developers.

In JavaScript events-driven policy which means that it performs by triggering response to user actions or system events. JavaScript is a key technology tool in the web development task – it is mostly utilized to create dynamic and interactive website content. JavaScript does not just follow the command values in a linear sequence, but waits for the occurrence of an event, a mouse click, keyboard input or, page load and then it will start actions or functions related to the event. Dynamically speaking, this kind of asynchronous nature way enables webpages or web applications to be responsive to user interactions with it without blocking the execution of some user scripts. The evented model of JavaScript is a procedural phenomenon for the developers to construct interactive and responsive web applications where actions are caused by actions while not by the order on the program. With the use of event listeners and callback functions, programmers take advantage of this opportunity and are able to build highly interactive user interfaces, make the user input more effective and give the browser a flawless activity.
Leanna Paul says
Hi Eduard, good post! The event-driven model opens up a world of possibilities for developers, allowing them to construct interactive and responsive web applications. The concept of actions triggering actions, rather than following a predefined program order, is liberating.

A web page’s structure is added by the coding language HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). A webpage’s content can be arranged consistently with HTML, which defines components like headings, paragraphs, lists, links, and more. Developers can determine the hierarchy and layout of a page as well as its structure by utilizing HTML tags. The cornerstone of web development is HTML, which acts as a base for additional technologies like JavaScript and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). Developers may ensure accessibility and search engine optimization by creating pages with semantic meaning using HTML. All things considered, HTML is essential for specifying the content and structure of web pages, giving users a consistent and orderly online experience.

Hi Jorgelina,
I liked your post about how HTML adds structure to a web page. A couple things to note here are how CSS and JavaScript work in tandem with it. Adding CSS to the code will affect how the web page is displayed. Adding JavaScript to the code will add interactivity to the web page.
Ereny Abousaif says
Hi Jorgelina,
You made a really good point in your piece on how HTML gives a web page structure. It’s crucial to emphasize how CSS and JavaScript work together to improve functionality overall. While including JavaScript adds interaction and makes the website seem different, incorporating CSS makes the page look different and makes the user experience more dynamic.
Dylan Milano says
Hi Jorgelina,
Your explanation of the role of HTML in structuring web pages is clear and informative, emphasizing HTML’s importance in defining the components and layout of a webpage. You effectively highlight how HTML tags enable developers to organize content hierarchically, create semantic meaning for accessibility and SEO purposes, and establish a consistent user experience on the web.
Georgios Zisis says
Which coding language adds structure to a webpage?
The coding language used to add structure to a webpage is Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). The main focus of HTML is providing a basic structure to display content on a webpage. HTML is often used in tandem with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to style the content, or how elements will be displayed on the screen. Using HTML alone will leave the webpage looking very plain with just the bare minimum required for a webpage. Some of the basic HTML code used is the head section, body section, text markup, lists, forms, attributes. Some of the CSS code used is color, syntax, layouts, fonts and text, transitions, and animations. The last coding language typically used with HTML and CSS is JavaScript. While HTML and CSS are important for the structure and display of a webpage, JavaScript brings a webpage to life by adding interactivity. Some JavaScript code that is used are variables, functions, data types, operators, events, and control flow. When all three coding languages are used together, webpages that you are used to seeing everyday are made possible.
Hawa Barry says
Hi Georgios, I like how you tied all three coding languages together to your post.

Overall, HTML is an essential coding language for adding structure to a web page. Its ability to define the content and layout of a webpage in a clear and organized manner makes it a fundamental tool for web developers. By mastering HTML and understanding how to use its elements effectively, developers can create well-structured and visually appealing websites that are easy to navigate and understand.
Corey Reagan says
JavaScript is also instrumental in creating animations and visual effects on a web page. By combining JavaScript with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), developers can create visually stunning effects such as parallax scrolling, hover effects, and animated transitions. These effects help to captivate users’ attention and make the website more visually appealing. By leveraging the power of JavaScript, developers can create interactive and engaging websites that captivate users and drive engagement.

Adding Structure to a Web Page: HTML is the coding language responsible for adding structure to a web page. HTML uses tags to define the various elements that make up a webpage, such as headings, paragraphs, images, links, forms, and more. It lays the foundation for content organization and presentation on the web.
Adding Functionality to a Web Page: JavaScript is the coding language that adds functionality to a web page. JavaScript is a versatile scripting language that enables developers to create dynamic and interactive elements on a webpage. It allows for tasks like user input validation, DOM manipulation, animation effects, fetching data from servers, and handling events to provide a rich user experience.
Dylan Milano says
Adding Design Elements to a Web Page: CSS is the coding language used to add design elements to a web page. CSS controls the presentation and styling of HTML elements on a webpage, including layout, colors, fonts, spacing, and responsiveness. By separating the content (HTML) from its presentation, developers can create visually appealing and consistent designs across multiple web pages.
JavaScript’s Event-Driven Nature: JavaScript is event-driven because it responds to events triggered by user actions or the browser environment. Events in JavaScript can include mouse clicks, keyboard inputs, form submissions, page loading, and more. When an event occurs, JavaScript can execute associated event handlers or functions to respond dynamically, making web pages interactive and engaging for users. The event-driven model of JavaScript allows for asynchronous programming and responsiveness in web applications.
Leanna Paul says
Hi Dylan, I chose the same question to respond to and I found your insights very important. Together, HTML and CSS form the core technologies for building the structure and design of web pages. HTML defines the content and structure, while CSS enhances the visual presentation and layout. Good post.
Ereny Abousaif says
Hi Dylan, the viewpoints are very important. The foundational tools for creating the structure and design of web pages are HTML and CSS. Content and structure are established by HTML, and the visual appearance and layout are enhanced by CSS. We value your insights.
Leanna Paul says
JavaScript is considered event-driven because its execution model revolves around events and event handling. In an event-driven programming model, the flow of the program is determined by events such as user actions, system notifications, or messages from other parts of the program. JavaScript, especially when used in the context of web development, relies heavily on handling events triggered by user interactions with a web page. Handling events allows developers to create user interfaces that respond to user actions in real-time, providing a more engaging and responsive user experience.
Kerri McGuckin says
Hi Leanna,
Your response is very well written. I do think Javascript, HTML, and CSS all play important roles in creating websites, but I do think Javascript is the most important. Without it, the internet would truly not function the way it does now. Although I am grateful for Javascript, I did find CSS the most interesting and I would be more interested in learning how CSS works.
Leanna Paul says
HTML and CSS are the primary languages used to add design elements to a web page. HTML is the standard markup language for creating the structure and content of a web page. It defines the various elements on a page, such as headings, paragraphs, lists, images, and links. While HTML is essential for organizing the content, it doesn’t handle the visual styling or layout. CSS is used to add design elements and styles to HTML elements. It allows developers to control the layout, colors, fonts, spacing, and other visual aspects of a web page. CSS works by selecting HTML elements and applying styles to them, either through inline styles, internal styles (within the HTML file), or external styles (in a separate CSS file).
Ereny Abousaif says
HyperText Markup Language, or HTML, is the computer language that gives webpages their structure. When I signed up for this class, I was unsure of how I would do as I have absolutely no experience with coding. I began to feel more and more comfortable and confident in my abilities to conquer coding. My major takeaways from this class are this:
1. If the code you write is wrong, you’ll know as soon as you run it.
2. Correcting code is not as daunting of a task as I originally thought.
3. As long as you are careful with the details of the code, you should be successful.
4. There are a fast abundance of online resources to assist in writing and correcting code. Many forums have extremely fast responders.
5. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, and although I doubt I’ll make a career out if it, it is a useful tool that I would like to increase my knowledge of moving forward.
Thanks for a great semester!

In order for a webpage to run like normal, it needs all three coding languages to work in unison. JavaScript is “event driven”, meaning that it waits for the user to do something in order to execute code. I always found coding to be interesting especially when considering the end of flash player in 2020. Many of the sites that used flash are filled with broken links now, but amateur programmers reworked entire games from childhood in HTML-5 so it could still be accessed today. Some people gathered groups of people to recode entire projects in order for it to playable, which is honestly quite fascinating.

The coding language that adds structure to a web page is HTML. HTML, standing for HyperText Markup Language, forms the backbone of web pages, defining the layout and structure through elements like headings, paragraphs, and body tags. My first encounter with HTML was through Myspace, where I learned to customize my profile using basic HTML codes (I know, I am really aging myself apart from the other students in this class).
JavaScript, on the other hand, serves as the language that adds functionality to a web page. With JavaScript, you can add different elements of interaction into your code, allowing users to engage with prompts, receive alerts, and interact with various elements on the page. Javascript is the reason websites like Amazon, google maps, and twitter work. Without Javascript we would not be able to interact with any websites on the internet.
Lastly, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is responsible for the design elements of websites, it creates the aesthetic appeal of a website. From colors and fonts to layouts and shapes, CSS allows you to stylize web pages and create visually captivating designs, enhancing the overall user experience.

HTML(Hypertext Markup Langage) is the coding language that is known to be primarily responsible for adding structure to webpages. A set of markup tags is provided that define all the various elements within a webpage. This includes headings, paragraphs, lists, images, links, and more. HTML tags are then used to build the content within a webpage. This allows the coder to define the layout, in turn the browser will display this content correctly. When using HTML, wen developsers can organzie and arrange whatevr text, images, or other media they want to add. They can easily create a very cohesive structure, that can be as user-friendly as the coder likes. As we learned with CSS and JavaScript, HTML is one of the foundational forms of web development. This allows so much whether it’s creating dynamic and interactive webpages, or just learning to code on multiple interfaces that are user friendly.

Which Coding Language adds functionality to a web page?
JavaScript is the widely known coding language that has the ability and responsibility to add functionality to a web page. In doing so, allowing developers to create responsive, and interactive elements that are often taken for granted. These elements such as pop up windows, form validations, even animations, and plenty more. JavaScript runs directly within a user’s browser, enhancing the experience without needing to communicate with the server. The capability makes JavaSript a crucial component for interactive webpages. With the extensive library that has frameworks like react, angular, and many more empowering developers. This allows developers to build complex and feature rich web programs and applictions offering seamless interaction and the ability to handle a majority of complex datasets.

The idea of JavaScript being event driven makes sense given it’s nature, so what about other common coding languages? Python is event driven as well, but Python is utilized for more CPU driven tasks compared to JS interactions being based more in real time. While JS is also built into most web browsers, Python usually needs some type of third party resource to interpret and interact with it. Game development software is also typically event driven. I dabbled in game coding when I was younger, which was more barebones than the more complex languages out there, but it’s understandable how independent game developer can create product if the resources are there.

Recently, we discussed different formatting tools for websites. In the same way that coding sequences result in create format on-screen interactions, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript each contribute to a different on your website. For starters, HTML is the way in which your content is displayed– think ” How do I want whatever information I am displaying to viewers to appear?” JavaScript, on the other hand provides functionality to a website. It makes your site interactive. Take social media sites for example… Maybe twitter or Instagram. Whether you’ve noticed it or not, those sites are very functional and interactive. You can leave comments, follow friends, like and repost pictures (among many other things). As you use them, you are very engaged, thanks to coding like which is permitted in JavaScript. And finally, there is CSS which provides aesthetics. Similar to typing a word document, you can control the fonts, letter or media sizing, and the colors. Or when making a PowerPoint, you can use premade templates. Each of these 3 components contribute to how your website is formatted.

Overall, this course was extremely informative. Digital Systems entails how technology is applicable within the business world. In so many ways before, I paid little to no attention to the way technology solved so many problems. I didn’t understand that way it worked, outside of the ways I directly used it. But the course continued (especially in regard to the most recent lectures), my understanding has grown. I had difficulties coding using JavaScript, but as we practiced more, I got (a wee bit) better. And I can understand the basics of how it works. How coding is used to prompt and display the exact textbox I am writing in.
Another interesting section of this course was when we discussed AI. Alot of misconceptions I had relating to artificial intelligence were debunked. I no longer think of super sentient machines who will overpower earth. But instead, I remember Siri and Alexa, or the computer player during a game of virtual chess. It further goes to show how technology of all forms contributes big and small to our daily lives. After this course, I can come to appreciate it a bit more.
