Cybersecurity

Lee Faller - June 6, 2022 Leave a Comment

Threat modeling is the process of identifying potential threats, such as structural vulnerabilities or the absence of appropriate safeguards, so that they can be enumerated and have countermeasures prioritized. This is an important process for data protection and cybersecurity as people are always vulnerable to having their private information stolen and exploited. Data collected by the vast majority of products that people use every day isn’t regulated. The US does not have a singular law covering the privacy of all types of data, but rather a mix of laws that go by acronyms like: HIPAA, FCRA, FERPA, GLBA, ECPA, COPPA, and VPPA. Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a ransom is paid. Hospitals are often targets for ransomware as they are more likely to pay to prevent disruption to patient care. Alan Turing, who developed the basis for the first computer, created a test for AI called the Turing test. The test entails that a computer uses written communication in order to convince a human that it is another person. Despite major advancements in AI, no computer has ever passed the test.
