MIS…What does it mean? What is it all about?

Kayla Callaghan - January 23, 2023 1 Comment

Personally, I have to admit that before this class I had limited knowledge about what MIS meant and what it actually consisted of. First and foremost, MIS stands for management information systems. At first glance, many may think that this is computer science. However, think again!! It is very important to remember that MIS is not computer science, but in fact, consists of many more concepts. Essentially, MIS is a business where people are training individuals to use technology to improve their day-to-day activities in their organizations. People use these methods to solve problems within their business, so MIS becomes the glue that ties the organization together. Those who work in MIS use data and analytics to come up with systems to help enhance companies, grow revenue, create new business models, and much more. So, I think that it’s safe to say that MIS is and never will be computer science. I’ve definitely learned how essential those who work in MIS are to all organizations!

Hello Kayla, I resonated with your statement that before this class began, the idea of what MIS was, was confusing. I had previously thought that MIS was a computer science course, as well. I believe that what MIS relates to is very interesting and will be extremely helpful when entering the professional business world, considering technology is always advancing and becoming a powerful addition to all businesses.
