Shivam Joshi says
My digital identity refers to the online presence and representation of an individual. This includes information such as personal details, social media profiles, online activity, and interactions with others. To manage their digital identity, individuals can use privacy settings, be mindful of the information they share online, and actively monitor and maintain their online presence.
Having a good digital identity is important because it can impact a person’s personal and professional life. It can affect how people perceive them, their reputation, and even their job prospects. It is also important because it can protect individuals from identity theft and online fraud.
The Management Information Systems (MIS) community platform is a place where individuals and organizations can connect, share information and best practices, and collaborate on projects related to the field of management information systems.
The purpose of building an e-portfolio is to showcase an individual’s work, skills, and achievements in a digital format. It can be used as a tool for self-reflection, professional development, and to demonstrate one’s capabilities to potential employers or clients. It can include a variety of items such as resume, work samples, and testimonials.
Jinzhou Situ says
Hi, Shivam, I think your explanation of the importance of digital identity is very good because now is the Internet age, everything on the Internet of everyone will deeply affect others’ perception of him, which means that the above information will always affect others’ perception of him His evaluation is his future. If a person’s digital identity is bad, then his life in society will suffer from many inconveniences. So I think it’s very important to strengthen the security of digital identities.
Montajim Khan says
Hi Shivam, I like how you describe digital identity. Privacy is very important these days. It’s important to control what you share and where it goes. I do agree having a good digital identity is important because if you don’t, it could cause problems along the way, which isn’t good for your professional or personal life. For the MIS community, I also see this platform to see if the person is interested in MIS. Such as myself, I’m a non-MIS major but reading people’s thoughts helps me get a better idea of certain topics that are related to MIS.
Julia Grugan says
Hi Shivam, thanks for your post! I was wondering, do you think you have a good digital identity? Do you have a strategy for how you curate your image online? Finally, do you think it is better to have no digital identity than one that is not carefully curated? I’m not sure I would go that far, but I do think that being careful with the image that you portray is important for professional contexts, as you mentioned.
Levan Lobjanidze says
We must also remember about the moral side of how much control and access does governments and IT corporations should have over those IDs. I think we as a society must be careful.
Ishaan Joshi says
Hello Shivam, nice last name. I agree with you that having a digital identity is extremely important and especially for the reason you mentioned, professional life. If people don’t want to share their personal life on social media I completely understand, but having a professional presence online is extremely important with the way the world is headed. Communities like the one we are in right now as well as websites like Linkedin are what allow you to build connections, make relationships, and create opportunities for yourself so I think it is extremely important in todays generation.
Jinzhou Situ says
My digital identity is the user data I display on different websites, which contains some basic information about me and some things I want to display. I should be careful about uploading information about me on it, because it may be used by criminals if it is not used carefully. Having a good digital identity can avoid many troubles, such as problems with credit reporting. MIS community platform is a platform where everyone can share information about mis. The electronic portfolio can record some of a person’s more important experiences, so that they can be kept at all times and will not be missed.
Justin Bonfiglio says
Hey Jinzhou,
When writing my response I didn’t even think about the criminal use of my information, I only thought of how a company one day would see my digital identity when they try and look me up before possibly hiring me. This is just a important of a reason to keep your digital identity safe and only allow the good stuff out there and not your personal information like.
Julia Grugan says
Hi Jinzhou, could you please elaborate on the criminal point? I had never thought about that, but you’re right, it can definitely be dangerous to post your surroundings or “flex” online. How do you maintain your safety while still curating a digital identity?
Montajim Khan says
My digital identity involves self-promotion, such as YouTube, and social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I use my digital identity to get as many views as possible to gain revenue, such as YouTube. The more views and click you have, the more you will earn. Also, I use it to build relationships with other people. Interacting with people in the digital is important since everything is digitalized these days. To manage my identity would be security. Security is really important if you put all your information into a site. If your data gets breached, then no one will use your platform.
Having a good digital identity is important because everything you post online stays on the internet forever. Even if you click delete, it would somehow be permanent. So always be careful of what you do on the internet. I believe the MIS community platform is for people interested in MIS and connecting with other like-minded individuals in the same space to share ideas and thoughts involving MIS. Creating an e-Portfolio helps show others your strengths and weaknesses and determine your qualifications for the specific job you applied for. I think having your resume out there, such as on LinkedIn, is important. If your information is on there, the chances are high of getting hired. It’s important to have an e-portfolio in case anyone requires your expertise.
Isel Sainte says
Oh, we need to talk. You could teach me a thing or two. I am currently trying to build a business and would need to post content. Like you said the more views the more you earn. If people go to look at my business page, they may buy which means I would be earning.
Nicholas DiGiuseppe says
Hi Montajim,
I think you did a terrific job at explaining the importance of creating an e-Portfolio. I totally agree with you about everything being digitalized to this day. I feel we truly are very lucky to have platforms like LinkedIn around so that we can build our profiles, create strong resumes, and ultimately, make it easier for ourselves to get noticed in case people are looking to hire.
Justin Bonfiglio says
Digital identity refers to the presence and representation of an individual in the online world of the internet. Forms of this are as simple are social media use or even just every day browsing and use of the internet. Really any information shared or put online about an individual is a form of digital identity and it can and will follow them. There are a lot of ways to try and limit or hide your digital image through certain settings that prevent your information from getting out there, but the best way to prevent it is to only post professional and appropriate things online. Doing this is important because as I said earlier these things will follow you and once they are up, its never coming down. Having a bad digital identity could lose you possible job opportunities and pose a negative image/view of you.
The MIS community platform is a way for us Temple MIS students to chat and work with one another in the online world and learn about how information like our digital identity are used, spread, and obtained in the first place. Having an online presence for some is bad, but for others can be good. One example of a good online presence is an e-portfolio which will show all the good things about you. The goal of an e-portfolio is to be the first thing you find when looking up a name and it will share important information like education, skills, jobs, and overall achievements.
Sophie Chen says
Hi Justin,
I definitely agree with you that an e-portfolio should show all the good things about you. It is especially important to ensure that you keep your digital identity professional and not add any information that would cast your profile in a negative light. As your e-portfolio becomes more established and visited by other users, it will slowly move up in the search order when others look up your name. I think often, many people forget that social media is part of an individual’s digital identity, and if an account is public, employers or anyone else can view an individual’s personal social media accounts so it is important to be careful what you put on the internet as it may affect your digital identity.
Sheree Owens says
Hey Justin! I completely agree that is important to watch the things you post and to make sure it is not inappropriate. You never know how one post on social media can damage your reputation and prevent you from getting great job opportunities or hurt your school career. Once you post something on the internet, even if you delete it you never know who’s watching or monitoring your activity. I think it’s best to maintain the best online image and not post too much personal information to prevent identity theft.
Anthony Marquis says
Hi Justin, I also agree that having an e portfolio really helps show all the greaqt things that you are capable of doing and it also helps establish you as an individual seeking a job title.
Sophie Chen says
A digital identity is the information you use to represent yourself online or on an online platform. To manage your identity, you can use different privacy settings to determine who can and cannot view your online profile, as well as control what information stays hidden. For people who do not know you personally–especially potential employers, other students, networking contacts, or anyone else—your digital identity is essential as it is the only way for others to learn about your interests and career passions. For the best possible digital identity, it is good to have a professional headshot as well as descriptive but concise description about yourself.
The MIS community platform is a way for individuals and students to connect, network, and create groups with shared professional interests. It is a great way to network and find others who share similar hobbies, majors, and interests. An e-portfolio is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user. Similar to a digital identity, it is a collection of an individual’s projects, achievements, resume, and any other relevant information all in one place. It is especially useful for employers to learn about potential candidates–since they cannot personally talk to each candidate individually, many refer to a candidate’s e-portfolio to decide whether the individual would fit the requirements for the position as well embody company culture.
Isel Sainte says
Good mention, I did not think of mentioning using privacy settings. It is probably because I rarely use them. It made me think of how on Instagram you can post to your close friends. Which is a group of people you choose to see what you post.
Sheree Owens says
A digital identity is information about an individual that is posted online and is a representation of yourself. Your digital identity can be created by having a social media account and through having online activity (like shopping or browsing the web). It is extremely important to have a good digital identity to protect yourself and your personal information (SSN, email, address, birthdate etc.) It is important maintaining a good image for your professional career and for school purposes. Also, there are many bad actors online and identity theft can happen when you do not keep your information secure. You never know who is monitoring your profile and behavior on your social media accounts and it can damage your reputation in the long run if you are not mindful of the things you post. It is very important to keep privacy and security settings up to date to prevent identity theft and access to your digital identity.
Assia Snineh says
Hey Sheree,
i totally agree with your statement. Identity theft has become more popular recently. You really do never know who is monitoring your profile and it can potentially hurt you in the long run. This is a great explanation.
Yi-Lun Ma says
Hi Sheree,
You had mention the important about your privacy on the internet and what will happen if your account been leak or steal by the bad guys. I want to ask how do you protect your account?
Ivan Uliganets says
Our online personal data is the foundation of our identity in the digital age Your digital attributes are made up of all your personal information, including your name, address, date of birth, bank information, login information, SSN. There is much less control when it comes to third parties handling the data you entrusted to them. Anything from your digital shopping cart to credit reporting organization they’re all storing/processing, selling your data. Similarly, our online preferences consist of digital actions such as likes, comments, purchasing habits, search history. They are stored and tracked to keep track of your online identity activities. Our ability to prove our identity in an online setting is done so through our digital identities. Management Information Systems and in its simplest form means the use of systems or technology to improve decision making, with the goal of increasing sales, profits and customer value.
Mis community platform individuals and students can connect, network, and join organizations with similar professional interests using the platform. Finding others with similar interests, majors, skills, likes, accomplishments etc. An e-portfolio is a digital collection created by a student that showcases his or her lifelong learning of their course-related work, like experiences, employment history, extracurricular activities, and more.
Assia Snineh says
Hey Ivan,
Great explanation about our identities and how our personal data is the foundation of our identity. i completely agree with how we don’t have a lot of control when third parties are handling all of our data,
Amgad Elamin says
Hello Ivan,
I like your comments about MIS community platform. I found MIS community to be very helpful in connecting with other students in my field. we shared information on job seeking and interviews. I will always come back to this community for help.
Assia Snineh says
A digital identity, also known as a digital ID, is an online representation of a person’s true self. A digital identity is made up of many unique identifiers, just like in the real world. For example, name and date of birth are examples of personal information. Your online identity is important because it helps define who you are. It can be used to authenticate your identity when logging into websites or making purchases, as well as to protect your privacy. Your digital identity is made up of several different types of information. The MIS community platform is a student professional development and learning management system that fundamentally alters the interactions of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and industry partners. An ePortfolio is a digital space where students can organize, document, and display their most significant learning experiences. The reflective learning process of creating and developing a portfolio over time deepens their learning while also producing a dynamic product that makes learning visible to any audience.
Yi-Lun Ma says
The purpose of building an e-portfolio is to show your individual work, skill, experience, and your achievement. It can be a good tool to help professor to know about you quickly. In the e-portfolio, you can add some work experience when you having a chance in internship, it can help you know what you had done before in the school before. The MIS community platform is a location where people and companies may meet, exchange knowledge and best practices, and work together on initiatives associated with the management information systems area.
Leonid Kovalchuk says
Hey Yi-Lun, I agree with your explanation about the purpose of building an e-portfolio.
And i like that you showed that it serves as a powerful tool that could be used to showcase a professional profile and help potential employers get to know a job applicant better.
Aidan Morgan says
Hi Yi-Lun, I appreciate your break down on e-portfolios as I did not dive into that topic during my post. I feel as if they are beneficial to have as they provide a solid rundown on the skills of an individual. An e-portfolio can sort of serve as an online resume but with added information for people to read and learn what others have to offer in their field.
Levan Lobjanidze says
Like a physical identification documents, a digital ID is also a type of identification used in our everyday lives to identify us as individuals. Even our physical IDs are bind to a digital database that contains our credentials. Government officials keep those databases relatively safe, but we expose our personal date every day. Other than that, even social media profiles and emails can be used as a digital ID nowadays. Services such as Docusign allow users to sign digital documents without touching actual physical paper. In many business industries, customers and businesses make transactions between each other without seeing who in on another side of the screen or phone. Although digital ID makes such transactions convenient, it also rises risks. Digital ID can be fabricated or stolen. Risks go even further than just material damage. Moral questions arise about how much control and access does governments and IT corporations should have over those IDs.
Lamine Karamoko says
In today’s time, having a really good digital identity is important for personal and professional success. Having good digital identity means that the presence that someone creates for their activities like social media, online connections, and profiles are there. Having a good digital identity could help with professional opportunities by showing who you are as a person, but on a digital platform. These opportunities could include skills, experiences, and qualifications. It can definitely also attract potential employers and clients. That being said, this could help with increasing trust and facilitate communication with friends and even strangers. A good Digital identity also helps to protect people against cybercrime and also online fraud. This is because it can be easier to differentiate and see oneself from another fake account. This is basically the same way that you would see about 300 Kevin Hart profiles on Instagram, and there could only be one verified account.
Leonid Kovalchuk says
Hello Lamine, i completely agree with you. Having a good digital identity could really help us in the future if we use it correctly. It’s the same as in a real world but virtually. We need to pay more attention to what we say on internet.
Sahid Kapadia says
In this Digital world where what’s out there digitally about us affects our job application to if we get a home loan it’s really important that we protect our digital identity. Here are some ways to protect our digital identity. 1. Use unique passwords and avoid repating password. 2. Use 2FA for everything you can. By doing this you add an extra layer of protection to your Twitter account to Tuportal. This way, not just anyone can access your accounts. 3. Avoid taking phone calls from an unknown number. If it’s a genuine phone call they will leave a voicemail or call back. 4. Avoid opening links from emails that looks suspicious. By just opening that link the scammers can access some of your most private information. 5. Avoid entering information online if it’s not required. From filing job application to applying for fafsa if some sort of information is not required then don’t provide it. These are just few ways to protect your digital identity and which I follow. Share some of your ways you protect your digital identity.

My digital identity refers to how I am represented online. My digital identity is how I present myself through various forms of media such as social media networks, business networks, and other forms. My digital identity can be traced through various accounts I create from sites such as Instagram to Amazon, from LinkedIn to Esty, and so much more. A digital identity is also what makes one individual unique online compared to multiple accounts mimicking a person or based off a person. I can manage this digital identity by making conscious decisions with my accounts. I can protect my image and myself from people I do not know and even forms of spam and hackers by making my accounts private. Having a good digital identity is crucial for maintaining a positive identity. Ensuring appropriate and formal post are made are essential to create and maintain a positive outlook and reputation. Since many people have multiple forms of social media and how easy it is to look up others, having these appropriate posts are important. Digital identities are even prevalent in job searches as many businesses will look into one’s digital identity to see who the “real” applicant is and how they present themselves to the public. If one has a digital identity of crude, inappropriate, and offensive posts, many would want to avoid that person and businesses may opt to steer clear of them as well. The MIS community platform is where students are able to network and collaborate with shared professional interests. Students can share ideas and information with each other on their shared interests and even gain more knowledge on said interest or in their profession.
Leonid Kovalchuk says
Your digital identity is the image you present to the world on the internet. It is the combination of your online activities and the information you create and share, such as blog posts, videos, photos, social media profiles, and other digital materials. You can manage your digital identity by producing and curating quality content, as well as deciding who you want to be online and understanding how that presents itself in your content. You should also be aware of how you can protect your data and privacy by adjusting the settings on your social media accounts. Additionally, always be mindful of your language and behavior while online.
A good digital identity is important because it is the reputation that you build online, and it reflects who you are. Your digital identity shapes the way people perceive you and determines the level of trust and respect that you will have in the online world. With an appropriate and positive digital identity, people can identify you, interact with you, and even do business with you in a secure environment. It also serves as an important factor in professional success as employers can use digital footprints to research potential candidates and make informed hiring decisions. Finally, it can help you build a positive online presence, establish credibility, and foster relationships with your peers.

Why is it important to have a good digital identity?
Digital identities are how we prove who we say we are in an online context. We all have a digital identity. Whether that be what we post on social media like videos and photos, blog posts, youtube posts. Anything that is on the internet is there to stay, it is hard or likely impossible to get rid of it once it is posted. It helps to have a good digital identity because it helps establish who you are online, so if you are applying for a major job and they do a quick search and find something bad, it can hurt your chances and hurt your future chances. Digital identity can also be used to verify your identity when logging into websites or making purchases, and it can also be used to protect your privacy, hence why we have verification processes when logging into some websites. Having a good digital identity protects yourself and your image, if someone were to gain access to your digital identity, they could cause serious harm to your self image.
Robert DiBrino says
HI Sami! I completely agree. While you can go onto an account and “delete” a picture, that photo is never truly gone. It becomes evident time and time again that the past can come back into the spotlight with posts made years previously, whose content may not remain true today. It is so important to be careful about what you are posting as it can have a large impact on your future!
Nicholas DiGiuseppe says
Hello everyone,
MIS (Management Information Systems) is a great place where information can be shared and projects can be collaborated on between organizations and individuals. It is very important to have a good digital identity because there are many situations that happen where certain individuals will try to seek out and take advantage of any weakness in the information that one posts on any social media platform. It is also even more important to remember that there is a very good chance that companies will search for information about you online before hiring you. Personal information about you should really not be out there. On a brighter note, we should never forget that using the digital world is still really good for building relationships with others. I would also like to add that using an e-Portfolio is very useful in showcasing hirers what kinds of pros and cons you have and it is also good to have it out there so that your expertise will be seen.
Amgad Elamin says
Hello class,
My digital identity is my online representation of me. This includes social media, public comments, and personal data. To manage and protect my digital identity I customize my privacy settings on my web browser and social media accounts. However, after this class, I am considering using a paid online service to monitor my personal information floating on the web.
In my opinion, having good digital identity image is crucial when applying for a job because many big companies do google your name to see what comes up. Moreover, I regularly google my name from time to time to see if there is anything needs my attention.
MIS community is a platform where Management Information Systems individuals and organizations meet and collaborate on projects or new ideas. Sometimes, this community is a good source of information for students seeking jobs or internships.
During this course, I learned how to create an e-portfolio. It was easy. In this e-portfolio, I showed my skills and accomplishments. Later, I googled my name. I found my e-portfolio on the first page of search results. I will update it regularly so prospective employers can see the professional side of me.
Robert DiBrino says
A digital identity relates to a person’s online presence and personal identifiers. You will of course find information that builds this identity through online shopping, email subscriptions, etc. However, I am in a position that may be different from others in this class and also within my own generation. When searching for my name, the thing that will come up is my LinkedIn profile. Here you will learn about my education and professional experiences. However, outside of that, you will not find a lot. I do not have a Facebook, Instagram, twitter, etc. While I do see the benefits of having a digital presence, I made the personal choice to not have social media due to the negative impacts that it can have. Within the accounts that I do have, I create very complex and custom passwords in an attempt to avoid fraud. I do find at times that I am not “in the loop” on certain news items or current events with the news not being at my fingertips in a quick tweet or Instagram post, but overwhelmingly I have found this to be a great lifestyle choice. On my LinkedIn profile, the small part of the digital identity I do have, I like to manage this by liking and reposting the posts of others, as well as restricting those who I connect with. This helps me to continue to grow my professional network and build my resume. In turn, it is my hope that upon graduation, the network that I have built will aid me in pursuing my career or choice.
Anthony Marquis says
My individual digital identity is how I prove and display myself on the internet. There are various types of digital identities and how they are displayed. Your overall digital identity is personal data you’ve voluntarily uploaded to the internet through various digital portals. It is important to have a good digital identity because whatever you decide to post on your social media pages like Facebook or Instagram, it shows how you express yourself in different manners whether it is appropriate or not. Some employers will look into your socials to see the type of individual that someone is and it gives them an idea if someone attracts them or not based on their profile. The MIS community platform is a place where people can connect, and share information on projects that are related to the field of MIS. The main purpose of building an E-Portfolio is to have or provide evidence of professional or educational achievement in order to showcase your abilities. It also can be used as employment documentation during job searches that companies want to look at and to see who they might be hiring as a result.
Ishaan Joshi says
My digital identity is how I choose to represent myself to the rest of the world in my eyes. It is a technology that has connected the world like never before, and I can use it to my advantage. My digital identity includes what kinds of social media I use, how I use those platforms, what I am creating for others, what am I creating for myself, and much more. An excellent digital identity is vital because we live in a technology-driven generation, and you must catch up. The internet space allows you to connect with others, make a name for yourself, and create opportunities. Examples of this are using social media to promote your business. Connecting with others through social media is a smart way of promotion. A platform like LinkedIn is essential in finding a job or professional opportunity. This MIS community is a perfect example because it lets people of similar fields connect in a way that can benefit each other. Someone who is also in the MIS field but isn’t in any communities as such would be put at a disadvantage. We constantly talk about where the future is headed, and going digital is increasingly going to be more and more a part of our everyday lives, so it’s important to hop on the trend sooner rather than later.
Preston Cain says
I portray my digital identity to be an online representation of myself. In today’s world the younger generations are so attached to social media and many of these people consume their news and information from apps such as TikTok, twitter and Instagram. With that being said a person’s digital footprint has never been more important. For me, I do not post pictures that involve me in situations that I would not want an employer to see or affect my career later in life. I believe my digital identity is not only pictures I post or things I choose to share on the internet, but the pictures that someone else posts that I am in whether it is my friend or I am in the background. In my opinion the importance of building an e-portfolio is to showcase a person’s identity in a professional manor from work accolades to their best attributes and accomplishments.
