Week 2b question, What is your digital identity?

Ryan Scharko - February 2, 2023 2 Comments

To start, your digital identity is all of the information about you that is on the internet for anyone to find and see, and the information can come from any thing you have posted or any thing someone has posted about you with or without your consent. A digital identity is very important because companies will research you when you are looking to apply for a job and if they find questionable posts about you, then that could tarnish your chance to be hired. So when looking to uphold a good digital identity you need to a list of things. For one you need to post appropriate photos, along with appropriate captions, and on those posts make sure to remove an inappropriate comments. Another thing is to not engage in events or places where you could be seen doing things that would not look good if a picture of it was posted online. The easiest way to keep a good digital profile is to keep posting to a minimum and to ensure you are not caught up in any situations that could lead to bad things being posted about you.

    Hello Ryan,
I thought your explanation of what a digital identity is, was very helpful and easy to understand. You stated that “anything someone has posted about you with or without your consent”, meaning that even if you were not the one that posted certain information about yourself, it still affects the identity portrayed online. This idea is kind of frightening, in the sense that sometimes you do not even have any control over what may be portrayed through your digital identity. So not only do your individual posts directly affect your identity but what others you may know may post also does.

Thank you, digital ID is used in every workplace, although I don’t like it it’s kind of necessary.
