To start, cloud computing is when companies share their network on remote servers so that the company has its data store on the internet rather than on a local server. This allows employees and members of the organization to be able to access the network/data any where at any time. One pro of cloud computing is reducing the infrastructure costs because in-house data storage can cost a lot of money and there needs to be a team to ensure the storage is well maintained and function properly. Another pro is the simple convenience of people in the organization being able to access the server at any time from any where. A third pro of cloud computing is protection against data breaches because the cloud based storage is a lot more secure than on-site storage center. However there are some cons that come along with cloud computing as well. One con is that you have limited control because the cloud infrastructure is usually owned by a third party, which means you are not in complete control of your data. Another con is that back ups and restores take longer for larger back ups and it could disrupt server speed depending on the amount of data. A final con is that you are reliant upon the internet for all back ups so if your internet is down you cannot access any data and work you have done is now gone. Overall, cloud computing is definitely the way to go for convenience in this new digital era and more and more companies will continue to join the trend as time goes on.

Hey Ryan! Your post on cloud computing was an interesting read. After reading your description of cloud computing, it made me think about my own company that I work for. I work for a company that is fully remote so we use cloud computing in our own company so we are all able to view documents that pertain to our roles. When we were first introduced to cloud computing I didn’t think it was something I have ever seen/heard of but it’s cool to know that we really do use all of these components on a day-to-day basis in our real lives. Even though cloud computing is used in my own company, there definitely is a lot of protection in place to be able to access the information, for fear of outside sources trying to get in. It’s definitely convenient but it’s interesting to see what precautions are put in place to secure the information.
