In our previous post, we went over what JavaScritp was, a type of programming language, and we went into slight detail as to what a variable was and how to either declare or initialize it. In this discussion, we are covering functions and their purpose. A function in JavaScript is “a set of statements that performs a task or calculates a value”. In order for it to be a true function it must take some input and produce some sort of output, and there must be some sort of relationship between both the inputs and the outputs. By calling function in JavaScript you are allowing an “object” to use a “method” that belongs to another object. In other words, it calls to apply a function to more than one object.  Calling a function is also fairly straightforward. All you need to do is use the function name, followed by parentheses- call(). Below is an example.

    Hello Paige,

Great post, I like how you talked about some of the elements within JavaScript that we use to perform tasks and calculations to get a value. These are very useful and important steps to know when calling on a function. These commands are what will inanimate the code to do something. I also enjoyed looking at the example you provided. It is an easy-to-read guide as to how a function should be set up and look within your code. I think you also make a great point when you talk about the relationship between the input and output, whatever you put into the function will always affect the output of that function. It’s also important to remember that the input is also known as the independent variable while the output is known as the dependent variable. Overall, I think you did a good job talking about functions and the different parts within a function.

    Hi Paige,

I like the image you chose for this post, I find that labeled images explaining each part of a block of code helps me understand the structure and facilitates coding.
