(2B) Why is it important to have a good digital identity?

Lamine Karamoko - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

In today’s time, having a really good digital identity is important for personal and professional success. Having good digital identity means that the presence that someone creates for their activities like social media, online connections, and profiles are there. Having a good digital identity could help with professional opportunities by showing who you are as a person, but on a digital platform. These opportunities could include skills, experiences, and qualifications. It can definitely also attract potential employers and clients. That being said, this could help with increasing trust and facilitate communication with friends and even strangers. A good Digital identity also helps to protect people against cybercrime and also online fraud. This is because it can be easier to differentiate and see oneself from another fake account. This is basically the same way that you would see about 300 Kevin Hart profiles on Instagram, and there could only be one verified account.

What are the Benefits of APIs? 4a

Rachel Holt - March 2, 2023 2 Comments

API stands for Application Program Interface. It uses existing data programs and extracts new value out of them. For example, google maps has it’s own system that includes detailed maps and directions. Other apps like Uber have integrated this API into their design by reusing their navigation system for their drivers. This way Uber does not have to create it’s own mapping system, but can use an existing one. Another example is when you order food through services like Doordash or Ubereats. They use existing menus from  restaurants to show customers what the restaurant has to offer in their apps. The benefits of APIs are that they connect computer software to create new, more convenient digital experiences. APIs open opportunities for innovators to create new programs without recreating basic interfaces like maps, menus, login options, etc. They encourage innovation because creators have “building blocks” to construct their new creation.

(2A) What is Saleforce?

Lamine Karamoko - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

Salesforce is a CRM or customer relationship management that helps companies build relationships with future clients to make a potential deal. It has the ability to produce scalability and customization. Scalability basically means how much this software will invest in the future, So, whether it is looking after a company’s current customer relationships or looking after a customer base that builds over the next five years, Salesforce has the capacity and ability to scale up. So far, we used Salesforce to practice building relationships with clients for the future. We also practiced to see how exactly the software works and how to create certain panels on the website. At first it took a while to use, but then I got used to it after about 3 attempts at it. My impression of salesforce is that it is one of the best platform tools to use for a business or job that you may have.

Who Cares About If/Else Statements

Kayla Callaghan - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

I certainly care about if/else statements, and so do those who code! The if and else statements allow you to run a code conditionally based on whether something is true or false. This is considered a type of Boolean expression. Basically, you can code any expression to determine whether the data is true or false. Essentially you are saying if the data is true do x,y,z, or else do a,b,c. Personally, when I take a second to think about it, the if and else make sense in what you are trying to do. In class, we related the if/else statements to a swimlane type of flow chart and that really did help me understand. If you think of an if/else statement as a diamond, then it is a decision that must be made. With that being said, Javascript is making the decision as to whether or not the data is true or false. Then, that decision then leads to what the output of the code will be. So, if/else statements are yet another important aspect of Javascript that is useful to understand and utilize in codes!

(1B) What are the benefits of creating a database in Salesforce?

Lamine Karamoko - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

I think that there are many benefits to come with Salesforce. One major benefit is that it is a valuable way to connect with clients through emails, phone calls, meetings, planning and much more. It can take many businesses from small company to large enterprises. Salesforce is a cloud-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform that helps businesses to manage customer data, sales operations, and marketing campaigns. The tools on there can help businesses build relationships with future clients to potentially come across a deal. Their tools can help you achieve the goal of improving business through a simple view of the information relating to sales, marketing, commerce, and customer service. It’s very good for the partner ecosystems and security of business. This is why salesforce is one of the most useful CRM’s in business, and why more people will continue to use it. These are the benefits that come with salesforce.

(1A) What do MIS Professionals do?

Lamine Karamoko - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

MIS Professionals create information systems for digital management. They are basically people with both business and technical minds. There are many jobs you can get with an MIS major as well. These jobs range from being a software developer, computer programmer, and network administrator, to even being a management analyst. Most MIS majors look to be a project manager or a software developer most of the time. Although I am not an MIS major myself, I still have an interest in software development and learning programming languages. This is why I have chosen to minor in MIS and proceed with a Marketing degree. Another thing is that MIS is definitely a growing field in business. When you look up the salary for an MIS graduate, the average starting salary for an MIS major is between $50,000 to $60,000. That being said, in my personal opinion, MIS Professionals are the future for business and for economics

4b Post (How To Protect Yourself On The Internet)

Brittany Robinson - March 2, 2023 1 Comment

The internet is a wonderful place, but there are many chances for people to hack systems and steal your valuable information such as social security numbers, passwords, account information and financial information. It can be a scary thought, and even scarier when you do find out your accounts on the internet have been compromised. With that being said, there are many ways you can protect yourself on the internet. One way to protect yourself is by creating password that cannot be easily guessed. Refrain from using easy passwords such as your birthday, city you live in, or anniversary. Most passwords that are secure include lower case, upper case letter and a special character  (! or @ for example).  Other ways to protect yourself include keeping your devices up to date, be aware of phishing scams (for example: if you get an email from a company, check the email before opening it. You’ll be able to tell if the email is legit or not), secure your internet connection, and shop using sites that start with https and have a lock symbol.

4a (Product Managers and What Is Needed To Be A Great One)

Brittany Robinson - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

Project Managers are people that are responsible for planning, developing, launching and managing a product. They identity the needs of the customers while also working with the business’ objectives. I read an article on the Harvard Business Review website that discusses what qualities are needed to be a great project manager. There are a few competencies needed such as conducting customer interviews and user testing, performing market assessments, and defining and tracking success metrics. Many of these are learned through experience and not necessarily through a classroom. Other qualities include emotional intelligence, good relationship management skills, self and social awareness, technical skills and social awareness (Austin, 2017). I’m still deciding what I want to do after graduating. Since starting Temple in January I’ve received greater insight into different careers within the business world and product management is something I just learned about. It is something I could be interested in. I like the idea of doing research on a product and connecting with customers to understand their needs.

Functions in JavaScript

Kristina Brown - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

In JavaScript we use functions to complete a task and to maintain our code to make it easier to reuse. To use functions, you will have a function keyword and a function name and parentheses. WIthin the parentheses are the parameters for the functions. When you call a function, it is usually the name of the function you want to call followed by parentheses. Calling a function tells the computer to run the entered code. To pass a function means that the code will run the same reference as before but the values are different. This allows functions to be reused and to keep the code organized and avoid repeating code. The return keyword in functions allows the code to send the data to the called function. When the function reaches the return keyword it will stop and produce the value specified. It is important to note that it does not exit the program only the function.

3b Post (Data vs Big Data)

Brittany Robinson - March 2, 2023 Leave a Comment

There is a difference between data and ‘big data’. Traditional data is a set of qualitative and quantitative variables (Kaminskiy, 2017). Traditional tools can be used to read this type of data. ‘Big Data’ is described as data that has so much volume, velocity and variety that regular tools used to read traditional data cannot read this type of data. It is basically a larger set of data. Big data is used by companies because for many reasons such as improving operations, for better customer service, produce personalized marketing campaigns, and provide solutions that will increase profits (Boelho and Bigelo, 2022). For example a company can use big data to see how their customers change their wants and needs using both historical and real time data.  TechTarget discusses the many way different businesses use big data. Medical researchers use big data to look up symptoms of different diseases and their risk factors. Another example they provide is how government will use big data for emergency responses, crime prevention, and smart city initiatives (Boelho and Bigelo, 2022).
