It is indeed tough to manage work with school. Time Management becomes one of the most crucial skills to maintain quality of work at the job and at school. I was advised by one of my mentors to prioritize one over the other and set a fixed time and schedule for the second priority. I found that to be the best way to not comprise quality and be able to focus on both at the same time. During the Summer, I’m taking only one class with the internship and I have set all the deadlines for class assignments on my personal and work calendar. This helps staying on schedule with class while working a busy schedule at work.
It has been difficult balancing school and an internship at the same time, which is something I’ve been doing since starting my semester-long internship at PGW back in January. During the Spring semester, I was working on-site 25 hours a week MWF and taking classes during the morning/afternoon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This left me very little freetime, especially if I wanted to make time for other things such as going to the gym and cooking meals at home. What I’ve found helps is partitioning my time into strictly work/school/free time. During the Spring semester, I would focus on schoolwork mostly on the days I had class, and left work days strictly for work or other chores. However, with my full-time internship with AB this Summer, partitioning my time has gotten more difficult. Instead of carving out days specifically for schoolwork, I have been trying to check my laptop several evenings during the week to stay on top of schoolwork. With Summer 1 courses now over, this has gotten to be much easier.
