The classroom knowledge that I’ve leveraged the most during my internship comes from MIS 2101, where we covered swimlane diagrams. The team that I was on at AB for my first rotation (the first 5 weeks of my 10 week program) is underway with a Case Optimization project which aims to streamline and standardize how cases are handled in Salesforce across different departments. As part of these efforts, I was tasked with learning Blueworks Live, a process mapping tool which I’ve seen described as “Visio on steroids”. It’s a much easier and powerful tool than Visio, mainly because it builds process maps for you based on a few bits of information that you enter. My swimlane diagram knowledge from MIS 2101 made learning this new tool much easier.
The other classroom knowledge that’s come in handy is my experience with SQL. I’ve seen it in Salesforce as well as in Jira, where it’s modified to JQL (Jira Query Language) and used to build dashboards. My baseline understanding of SQL should make learning JQL much simpler.

The best classroom knowledge I have leveraged at work is from MIS 3506, which is the User Experience Design class. In the course, Professor Lavin had us working with a real-time client to build a website for a Minor BasketBall League in Valley Forge. We met with the owner to gather requirements, built wireframes, and used WordPress to build the site. My internship Project at WSFS Bank is to create a website for the Project Management Office on the WSFS Intranet site. I was able to use prior knowledge of creating wireframes on Figma to create the layout for the website. Furthermore, the gathering requirements activity in class helped with understanding the correct questioned that should be asked to stay within the scope of the project. It also helped with creating a business requirements excel sheet after speaking with stakeholders.
