Welcome to the online section of MIS5211! Although this class is online, over the next semester we will be interacting with each other and working on group projects.
As we prepare for the first Webex on Thursday, I’ve set this post for each of us to introduce ourselves:
- What is your preferred name? Are you a Robert that wants to be called Bob, or vice-versa? Let us know!
- Where are you based? Tell us about your City or Town.
- What is your current experience in ethical hacking?
- What do you hope to leave this class with?
- Are you currently employed in IT or IT Security? You don’t have to divulge your employer, and may be restricted from telling outsiders, but what industry segment do you work in?
- What “fun fact” do people not know about you?
Please join in, and post a reply with a bit about yourself.

Bryan Garrahan says
Hi Everyone – my name I’m Bryan Garrahan (I go by Bryan) and I currently reside in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood in Philadelphia. I personally don’t have much hands on experience in ethical hacking – however, in my role as an IT Auditor I was involved in performing an assessment around a penetration test that was recently performed by a third-party vendor at my company, which is an insurance services organization. Some of the procedures we inspected include physical security, password cracking, and external device / endpoint security. As an IT Auditor, I feel that I have a solid understanding of security from a risk perspective but as we continue to progress through this class I hope to grow my technical knowledge and skills in order to actually deploy better security practices. A fun fact about me is that I was a member of the men’s lacrosse team during my undergraduate at Saint Joseph’s University.
