Digital Marketing Intern – Subaru of America

Subaru of America (SOA) is owned by the Japanese company Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI). The company manufactures and distributes Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive vehicles through its 600 retailer network all across the United States. It was established in 1968 by Malcolm Bricklin after selling Fuji motorcycles and contracting an agreement with FHI to bring Subaru cars to the United States. Currently the headquarters is located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey after moving from the original location in Balla Cynwyd, Philadelphia. Subaru is also known for its Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) and having one of the top safety rating of all car manufactures in 2016.

My role falls under the Retail Digital Operations group in the marketing department at SOA. In this role I am offered a lot of flexibility in terms of what projects I take on. Usually on a day to day basis I get handed various sets of data to analyze and predict trends and forecast sales while continuously studying the automotive market. Using various tools like Oracle, I am able to input SQL statements or use a “template” general command to pull data from our servers about sales history and such. One of my biggest projects currently is the Digital Brochure Retail Kiosk which is a 60 inch interactive display that is available in all 600 retail locations nationwide. This kiosk is the first thing a customer usually interacts with at the retailer locations. Utilizing the kiosk the customer can do everything from ordering a car to getting more information on cars, parts and individual accessories. This project is ongoing and will be always ongoing since the kiosk is always updated with new car model years, accessories and fresh interactive content.

I have learned a tremendous amount of information from Subaru even though I’ve only been there for half of the full year long internship. Improving my SQL language skills, learning how to utilize Oracle efficiently, mastering Subaru specific tools like our Retail Parts Management Tool, Subaru Business Intelligence are just a few skills that I have already picked up during the start of my internship. I hope to continue to improve on these skills while gaining new skills and mastering new platforms.
