KPMG Audit Intern
Last semester I am worked a full-time internship at the accounting firm KPMG. Through this audit internship at a “Big 4” firm I have been exposed to the peak of accounting performances especially in regard to computer automation in the field. My main role during the busy season internship was to aid my assigned engagement team during their crunch time of finalizing reports. Although many of my specific tasks were confidential in nature, I can say the summary of what my day to day looked like varied vastly. Whether it be reviewing contracts, revising documents, or direct communication with clients, I applied my knowledge to the engagements in order to complete the assigned project. Although these small tasks may have been my main function and contribution to KPMG, the firm prides itself on how important it was for my personal training to become the center of my job. Through in-depth discussion with my supervisors going as far up as partners of the firm, I have been assigned specific engagements to best further my knowledge. I was assigned to three engagements in two very different industries, retail and finance. Because of this variety I was be able to get a hands on look at which line of business interests me the most. In this internship I not only took advantage of my accounting major for obvious reasons, but also as an MIS major I have applied my trainings from past ICAs and Assignments to quickly get a grasp on KPMG’s accounting software and trainings. This competitive edge of being able to wield both majors effectively I believe is a main reason I was extended a full-time job offer at KPMG for when I graduate. Through this internship I developed both my major’s skill bases by applying what I have learned in the classroom as an Owl, to the real world at the highest level.
