Embodied Intelligence
As part of the Digital Innovation Foundry (DIF), I worked on the Embodied Intelligence project, which explores the role of AI avatars in enhancing hospitality interactions. The project was in collaboration with Lu Lu, Associate Professor at the School of Sports, Tourism, and Hospitality Management, and Wangoo Lee, Graduate Fellow, who are investigating how digital avatars can transform service experiences in the hospitality industry.
My role in this project was centered on researching, designing, and implementing digital solutions that elevate AI-driven interactions for hospitality settings. I built an AI avatar system using JavaScript, integrating OpenAI’s conversational models and Azure Speech APIs on a WordPress/WooCommerce platform to ensure functionality aligned with customer needs. A significant focus of my contribution was creating an intuitive user experience (UX) that made these avatars not only engaging but also effective in real-world hospitality applications.
Through this project, I gained hands-on experience in combining AI, APIs, and web platforms to deliver practical solutions, while also learning how to design systems that balance technical efficiency with user-friendliness. I also deepened my understanding of how AI avatars can influence customer satisfaction and service efficacy, giving me valuable insights into the intersection of technology and hospitality. This project taught me how research-driven design, coupled with technical execution, can create meaningful innovations in industries built on human interaction.
