IBTI mentoring program participation
In the fall semester of 2021, I was selected to participate in the IBIT mentoring program. Where I got the chance to be the mentee of an industry professional(Neil Mundel). He exposed me to his associates with experience in my career track and explained the changes that had gone on in the technology world and the new employment standards, practices, and job opportunities available to me as a technology professional in multiple industries.
After getting to know each other for a little bit, we had three meetings where we discussed what I wanted to be and how I wanted to apply my degree in my professional life. I expressed an interest in information security and tech risk consulting. After which we talked about his experience in the industry and any professional advice he could offer. In the continuing days over email and zoom calls, we went through the advised onboarding topics and Neil took the time to introduce me to a few associates of his in different parts of the technology consulting and risk space, so as to give me a better insight to the career track that I preferred.
Finally, we conclude our last meeting by discussing some of the information I had gathered over the meetings with his associates, we talked about the changes in the industry and the best practices to make and avoid. While addressing some of the lingering questions I had concerning my career path. All in all, it was a wonderful experience that will go on to shape how I pursue my professional interests.
