About Peanut

Ingredient lists are complex and hard to read, especially for those with dietary restrictions. People with allergies or those who have chosen to avoid certain ingredients need a quick and easy way to determine if the products they’re shopping for are safe for consumption. Enter Peanut, the digital dietary assistant. Peanut fills the dietary restriction gap by allowing users to enter ingredients (or general dietary umbrellas) they wish to avoid. Users then scan the barcode of the product they are looking at in the supermarket and Peanut references the EWG Food Scores database to determine if the item contains anything they’re trying to avoid. Peanut then informs the user of its findings and suggests substitute products that are similar in nature to the “bad” product–without the harmful ingredients. Additionally, when a coupon is available, Peanut presents the digital coupon to the customer right in the app. These coupons are pulled from the Hip2Save database and are constantly updated and refreshed. Additionally, by offering these coupons to the customer and displaying them in the suggested product portion of Peanut, there is a revenue opportunity involved.
