Summer Intern at Mutual of America

This summer I worked as an Account Executive in the Office of Technology at Mutual of America. Mutual of America is a retirement company that is know for it’s niche role with Non-profit companies. The company is headquartered on Park Avenue in New York City, though they have 36 regional offices throughout the country. I was lucky enough to work at the headquarters this summer during my internship. The company has a rich history and has been operating since 1945. My role was to work with my team on a project to modernize one of the websites in use by employees in the home office and by clients. I assisted in completing documentations for the project as well as testing the interface of the website in development. I worked closely with my team and was able to help them whenever they needed. I was even given the opportunity to run several meetings concerning the standards of the website. I learned a lot from this experience. I learned what it is like to work on a project on a team in a corporate environment. I was able to test the website and learned how to navigate the website in development as well as document all my results. I learned how to take initiate and run a meeting, which helped develop my leadership skills. I learned how to work as a teammate and balance doing several different tasks at a time. I even learned hard skills like how to operate Microsoft Access. All of these things combined with the grind of commuting to NYC everyday from suburbia Philadelphia have shaped me into a vastly improved worker with a new skill set. My experience was extremely beneficial for the growth of myself not only within my professional career, but as a person.
