Company Background:
06/27/2017
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has once again ranked among the country’s finest in the 2017-18 U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals announced today. Nine of CHOP’s clinical programs ranked within the top three nationally in the 10 specialty areas evaluated in the U.S. News survey. CHOP ranked second overall on the Honor Roll, which recognizes the 10 hospitals with the highest rankings across all specialties, and is the only pediatric hospital in the tri-state region named to the prestigious list.
Internship Outcomes:
Web Development
As a CHOP IS Co-Op on the Web Development team, I gained exposure to DevOps, Agile methodologies, and the Systems Development Lifecycle. I was given the opportunity to participate in many strategic meetings and discussions around Governance, Change Management, Server Management, Vendor Management, and Source Code Management.
Strategy and Consulting
As a CHOP IS Co-Op on the Strategy and Consulting Team I participated in the development of an Interactive Patient Experience program to improve patient engagement within the healthcare system. In this role I learned the importance of using stakeholder feedback, industry resources like Gartner, and data-driven decision-making to narrow the focus of a large, complex project.
While I developed technical skills in this roll, I also had the opportunity to interact with patients and families. The training I received around etiquette in the healthcare environment conveyed to me the importance of each and every one of these interactions. It was a privilege to serve the children of CHOP and their families and truly humbling to know that there is no more important work than the work each child does with their care teams.
