Independence Blue Cross

Independence-Blue-Cross

This summer I will be interning at Independence Blue Cross under the Business Process Improvements Department. During this internship I will be helping to build a content management site, assisting with the development of websites using SharePoint, and also implementing new activities and tools in order to improve productivity. This internship will last throughout the summer and I hope to gain hands-on experience in not only the business world, but also the world of healthcare. I will update this post as the internship continues with what projects I am working on and what I have completed.

I have officially completed my internship at Independence Blue Cross. I learned a great deal about Microsoft SharePoint, reporting with Microsoft Excel and Tableau, and a great deal more about being a successful business analyst. I worked on projects throughout the company including Government Markets and Operations and received a great deal of experience and enjoyed every second of it!

Some specifics about certain projects I was working on:

My first project consisted of creating a report in excel which drew information from our SharePoint site and automatically updated every day. This was very helpful in teaching me many of the common commands and formulas in excel that I was not aware of before.

Next I was responsible for recreating the SharePoint site that our department used. I used HTML and CSS to make it look like it’s own independent site on SharePoint and I interviewed different people in the department to see which information was important and how it should be displayed. I cut the number of files from around 13,000 to 3000 files, eliminating clutter and increasing efficiency

My last project was to create a separate SharePoint site for the Government Markets team. I used what I learned on my last project to help me with this one, as they had different needs and requirements.

I learned a great deal about SharePoint and Excel and I had a great time learning what it meant to be a true business analyst.
