E-Commerce Internship at Mainfactor

My internship at Mainfactor has taught me a lot that I didn’t know about how E-Commerce really works. Prior to starting at Mainfactor, I knew much more about in-person retail, and it has been beneficial to have the opportunity to understand both ends of the spectrum. I have gained a lot of hands-on experience, including setting up online storefronts and creating product shells and filling out the information necessary in order to launch them as products on the storefront. I have gained an understanding of the importance of warehouse communication, and I strive to place purchase orders and comp orders in an organized and efficient fashion. I have learned about search engine optimization (SEO) and why it is important to keep an online storefront organized and up to date. I have gained experience in communicating expectations and roadblocks, and providing deliverables before deadlines.

My internship at Mainfactor has taught me a lot about independence and when not to be independent. Since I started in May, I have gained more responsibility and understanding of the company’s operations from the top down. This experience has very much strengthened my communication skills. I have learned how to frame my contributions, when to problem-solve, when to admit that I need help, and how to communicate that effectively. This experience has strengthened my technical skills, specifically using Shopify and Excel. I also have strengthened my attention-to-detail. SKUs (Stock Keeping Units), prices, titles, URLs, etc. can be significantly and negatively affected by typos or slight organizational mistakes, and I have noticed myself making less small mistakes as time goes on, and more importantly, noticing them during a final sweep before delivering anything to the client.
