Management Information Systems Intern

This summer, I interned at OMSAI Com LLC in their Management Information Systems department. OMSAI Com LLC is a small firm located in Ringtown, Pennsylvania. They have supporting firms in Virginia and internationally in India. The firm includes departments of tax services, mortgages, software consulting/training, web development, as well as providing certification courses for various MIS-related certificates.

My assigned role was to support full-time consultants and developers in current projects being run within the firm. Most of these projects were comprised of web development. A large portion of my internship was consisted of learning as well as obtaining certificates for my own professional development.

Some of my various projects included:

1.) Website development for a small DC- based firm. We used a combination of WordPress and Wix to increase engagement features of the company’s website based off of the owner’s wishes. This also gave me insight into how these web development tools worked. I was welcomed to share my ideas as well as I learned what went into this process.

2.) Helped support in consulting team for a start-up working to bring their e-commerce business idea to life. I supported the development of this project until the end of my internship.

3.) I was giving resources to expand my knowledge in various MIS related topics such as Javascript, CSS, and HTML, and Scrum. I was also given the experiences of working in specific project teams and finding a niche role within these teams.

During the course of this internship, I learned a lot of valuable information that will help me with my MIS courses at Temple University. The web development experience that I gained has already shown to help me in classes such as MIS 2402. I also rehearsed some knowledge that I gained in MIS 2502 involving data extraction and SQL.
