Tax Digital Consulting Intern

My overall role at Grant Thornton was to assist associates and senior associates on client projects, then presenting the final deliverable to management for review.

Over the summer I worked on two projects with Grant Thornton. The first project I worked on was a data cleaning and transformation process of the client’s trial balances. We utilized an etl software called DOMO. With DOMO I was able to create a data workflow that automated the process of joining prior and current trial balalnces to create diagnostics for the client that showed the differences in pre-tax book income, trial balance ending values, and new accounts that needed to be added into OneSource. Once the data workflow was completed, and we were creating the correct data analytics and diagnostic values, we created a dashboard on DOMO to effectively visualize the difference in the trial balances. The second project I worked on was with an international tax client. We utilized Alteryx and Excel to scrape the international tax form for relevant information, then automated the process of transferring the client’s data into Grant Thornton’s tax form template. We were able to successfully automate this process, saving the firm 100 hours of manual labor.

I learned how to utilize the knowledge I learned in our Data Analytics course at Temple University to effectively use data analytics software such as Excel, DOMO, and Alteryx. I also needed to know how data interacts in the context of joins, appends, structured databases, and various sql formulas to extract data.
