IT Intern, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals

May 2015-December 2015

This past summer and fall semester, I participated in AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical’s 2015 IT Internship Program in their U.S. Commercial and Global Commercial Operations teams.

My Projects:

U.S. Commercial Role: During my first role, I was assigned to work under a business analyst. In this role, I validated Medicaid Rebates Claim Level Data using an application called Validata in Revitas, which is a contract management system. I also created training guides for Veeva Vault, a cloud document management system. Additionally, I performed user acceptance testing on a custom made iPad application called “Fetch” and was able to learn about AstraZeneca’s change management process. My last project was an intern group project where we had to compare a new communications tool called Slack to AstraZeneca’s current communications tools (Outlook, Lync, Box, SharePoint, Chatter, WebEx). Once we completed our analysis of Slack and AstraZeneca’s current tools, we presented our findings to the IT department.

Global Commercial Operations Role: In my second IT role, I was assigned to a more technical role to work under a solutions architect. My main projects included working with SnapLogic and Apigee. SnapLogic helps business connect cloud data sources to each other through pipelines. Therefore, my job in SnapLogic was to create a pipeline to move patient engagement survey results in AstraZeneca’s various servers. I also helped manage application program interfaces (API) with Apigee to connect the company’s products to one another.

Overall, I enjoyed my time at AstraZeneca learning about the role of IT in the pharmaceutical industry and having the chance to network and build relationships with many professionals.
