Last night (July 12, 2018), I attended the “Conquer Your Inner Critic” event at The Yard Co-Working Space. Jane Shure and Beth Weinstock, co-founders of The Resilience Group, discussed how to silence one’s inner critic and strengthen one’s inner coach. The goal of this discussion was to leave guests with the tools they need to stop negative self-talk and maximize success in the workplace. Throughout the event, I partook in a guided mediation and several interactive exercises. After the event, I was also able to network with the speakers and other guests.
I believe the knowledge I gained from this event is relevant to my coursework and future. In my opinion, the detrimental effects of negative self-talk are often overlooked. I learned different ways to motivate team members, establish a positive work environment and stay productive when times get tough. Additionally, I learned how to be resilient, or “bounce back,” from struggles that I will inevitably face in the real world. As a business major, I think these tools are wildly important for professional growth.
