SimpLit Reflection – MIS 4596

View Project Site

This post is personal reflection of my experience working on the MIS 4596 project. My teammates for this project were Ciara Murphy and Ben Kates.

When we first began working on this project, we knew that we wanted to create a product that addressed a major need in the market. More specifically, we wanted to create a business-to-business product because this was an area that none of us had specific experience in.

Our research lead us to the health care market and a particular opportunity in the health care information niche. We identified a need for simplifying health care documents in order to reach patients more effectively to improve care and reduce costs. What we came up with is SimpLit – a health literacy tool that allows doctors to manage and simplify their documents and deliver them via digital mediums all in the same platform.

We faced several challenges along the way. The first thing was identifying how this idea would be possible. Through competitive research, we identified another firm that offered a similar product but was not utilizing current technology. With our understanding of current trends in technology, we were able to adapt their business model to the needs of the digital market. Additionally, we had challenges identifying our target market. Unlike consumer products, we needed to find organizations and unfortunately organizations don’t have simple to quantify and measure demographics. Finally, we struggled to quantify the risks of the health care regulations world and how our product would fit into this highly regulated market without breaking the law.

Altogether, the project has been a great success and we are happy with the product that we have designed and prototyped.
