Work Experience

Fox Management Consulting (Philadelphia, PA) | August 2014 – December 2014

Fox Management Consulting at Temple University’s Fox School of Business offers cost-effective, research-based consulting to clients within the private, public, and social sectors across the globe. During my four-month internship at Fox Management Consulting, I helped the Fox MC team define internal business processes and identify IT solutions. I began development of a Salesforce database to manage four ongoing projects and over 500 contacts. I introduced and implemented new software to improve workflow by linking Outlook and LinkedIn to the database. Finally, I utilized the information collected by the database to produce custom reports.

This internship complimented a lot of what I learned in Data Analytics. Organizations of all sizes face challenges of how to manage all of the data and information it collects. For my internship at Fox MC, each employee had his or her own way of organizing data, which complicated the sharing of information and knowledge. My first step for creating a database was understanding the different entities and attributes that Fox MC wanted to track. After establishing the theoretical relationship between the different data points, I began actually creating the database. During this stage, I faced several obstacles. First, Fox MC was trying to capture data that did not neatly fit into the Salesforce system. We needed to create custom attributes. Second, the available data needed to be pruned to eliminate inconsistencies and redundancies. Finally, the greatest challenge was testing the theoretical system under a live environment and making adjustments. While I did not complete this stage because my internship ended, I was able to pass on the responsibilities to another intern who continued the development.

Altogether, this internship experience was very rewarding. I was able to take skills developed in the classroom and use them in the workplace.

RainKing Solutions (Bethesda, MD) | May 2013 – August 2013

This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at a IT research company called RainKing Solutions, a Software as a Service (SaaS) company. I worked with a team to develop the company’s database of information technology decision makers of various organizations. I was responsible for profile development which involved data mining and research using online resources. My team was selected for a project to expand the company’s database to include State, Local and K-12 enterprises. After completing that project, I was selected by my manager and the Chief Content Officer to spearhead a company-wide initiative to include Chief Marketing Officers to the entire database. Over the past few years, many companies have been adding this type of individual to their leadership teams. Throughout the duration of my internship, I learned a lot about the role of decision makers in IT departments and how new technologies are actually integrated into organizations. It was very interesting to see and participate in the development of a small organization’s emerging business plan. This position inspired me to pursue MIS as a major at school.

Praline Bakery & Bistro (Bethesda, MD) | October 2011 – August 2012

A longtime customer of both the bakery and restaurant, I knew Praline had fantastic food. However, I realized that the company’s online presence was lacking. In October 2011 I approached Praline with a business proposal to redesign the company’s website. My proposal was accepted and I began my project. I was responsible for the planning, programming and ongoing management of a WordPress website. Over six months I was able to increase web traffic by 120%. Health Literacy Innovations (Bethesda, MD) | September 2011  – April 2012

My first business experience was with a health care startup, Health Literacy Innovations (HLI). This company sells health care software products and services to help communicators eliminate consumer confusion due to low health literacy. My first responsibility was developing a new website using HTML, CSS and PHP. After completing the website, I was tasked with developing industry presentations for marketing purposes. This internship provided me with the experience working with digital teams. It was necessary to coordinate synchronous conferences with the team in order to communicate.
