Data Analytics Project: Study Abroad Programs Report
- Temple Education Abroad and Overseas Campuses has to collect data and statistics on the international programs to compile an annual report and submit it to the U.S Department of State. This includes programs, run by the department and recorded in its Terra Dotta database, and programs from other schools and colleges.
- In the past 15+ years, the department was using back-and-forth emailing chains and Excel spreadsheets to record data. This creates a few issues:
- Inconsistent data collection method: As there are more questions added to the report every year, the spreadsheets are getting bigger and harder to understand with abbreviations
- Human errors in Data Entry: Back-and-forth emailing chains are hard to keep track of. This lead to inaccurate records, misinformation, and disorganization.
- No standard for data input: Some questions are answered based on personal judgement since there is no guideline, data dictionary, or documentation on requirements for data types and values.
