Work/Internship
I was assigned to PHA’s Construction: Capital Projects department which is in charge of rehabbing units for tenants. My day to day tasks are to help input labor and material costs into the company’s CRM system to keep track of the project costs and to ensure that the project is within budget. At the end of the week, I reconcile the labor costs inputted throughout the week with a weekly time sheet of all the trade/construction workers. I helped transfer a scope of work paper into an excel spreadsheet so an estimate of costs can be determined for the house that is being rehabbed. After transferring the scope of work, I work on final cost reports of an unit to make sure estimates and final costs are within the scope of the project. I also help to better organize the documents and folders as tons of files are being inputted daily. Throughout the internship, I learned how crucial the scope of work is for a project. The scope of work provides a guideline for every task that each employee needs to accomplish and help organize the project by prioritizing each task. Overall, being able to work with a scope of work helped me realized how important it is to a project as spoken of in class, and it can help project sponsors visualize the estimate and total costs of a project.
I have worked at Dunkin Donuts for over a year now and I learned how to communicate efficiently with customers and to resolve problems with urgency to ensure their satisfaction.
Volunteer
I volunteered for an organization named “Cradles to Crayons” where we provide clothes to people who less fortunate. We helped sort and categorize the clothes to make sure it fits the children needs.
I also volunteered for a local organization named “Chinese Christian Herald Crusades” where I helped grade school students with their homework afterschool.
