Professional Development Activities:
– Spring/Fall Connection
During the spring/fall connection I learned how to do research on the specific companies that I am interested in talking to during the connection. I also learned how to network with employers while working on my communication skills. Another thing that I learned is how to focus on what I would skills I would like to display for the employer, as there is only a limited amount of time to speak to them.
– MIS 3502 Class Project
In my 3502 class, we had a semester long project called Rentzen. We had to develop a website that will renters/landlords can access to sell and buy homes. This website also had interactions with a database which was an important feature. In this project I was able to freshen up on my HTML and CSS but also learn new skills in Javascript and JQuery. It was a learning curve to build a website from scratch but with the help of Professor Shafer I was able to develop some new skills.
– IBIT/CDI Challenge
The IBIT challenge was interesting because we had different datasets that we can choose from and we had to clean out the data to make it more easily accessible and efficient to make charts/graphs out of it. We were able to clean out the data and made an infographic that condensed the information into a simple format. Although we did not win, it was a fun experience to get together to work on a project that can provide value to others.
