Summer Intern, IT Divestitures and Acquisitions, at Merck Co.
Merck & Co. is an American pharmaceutical company and one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Merck is a Fortune 100 company with over 60,000 employees worldwide and over $39 billion dollars in annual revenue.
As a summer intern, I worked for the IT department for Merck. Specifically, I worked for the Mergers, Acquisitions and Divestitures team under the IT Planning and Innovation organization. Our team worked to ensure business continuity during the IT integration process of an acquisition or divestiture. My main project was to develop the playbook site for the Divestitures and Acquisitions team to guide IT functional area leaders through the IT integration process of acquisition and divestiture deals. I designed and developed the landing portal and the pages within the site. Through the collaboration with consultants from Ernst & Young and 30 of the integration work stream leaders, I developed the content for over 40 of the site’s pages. Throughout my project, I engaged with senior leadership to provide overviews and updates of project progress, activities and challenges. Through my project, I learned about the IT architecture of a big Fortune 100 company, learned how to motivate people to help you complete a project, and use several IT tools.
Other projects and assignments included testing the functionality, user access, and security of Engage Zone collaboration sites, reviewing brand books for Merck’s key products such as Keytruda and Januvia, and presenting on my intern experience at our IT Planning and Innovation Town Hall.
