About a year ago I heard about Mohan Srivastava who through statistical analysis managed to beat a scratch lottery ticket game; a unique thing to do, but also a unique thing to try to do. Where others see these games as a result of chance or turn of fortune, Mohan saw it as something that could be predicted, and controlled. Thinking back on his case, I recognize the power of being able to gain insights and make your own luck.
The possibilities for gleaning insight from data analysis are numerous: insurance, industrial and consumer warranties; the list goes on.
I want to be an actuary not only of the inherent job functions, but also because I believe I would be good at it.
