Experience in Work

EXCELLUS BLUECROSS BLUESHIELD | Data Analyst Intern | Dewitt, NY

During my summer 2013 internship, I learned many invaluable skills. I worked both autonomously and with directors and managers to streamline the inventory reporting process for novice database users. For this, I taught myself the basics of Visual Basic in Access and Excel. I also created re-useable analysis devices for others to easily find meaning in the data being collected by Excellus BCBS. I feel as if I created a lasting impact. For example, I decreased the time needed to complete one weekly analysis report from 90 minutes, to 10 minutes. At the end of the summer, I knew that I had a real passion for data analysis.

TEMPLE UNIVERSITY | Diamond Peer Teacher | Philadelphia, PA

In the spring of 2013, as part of the Diamond Peer Program at Temple University, I worked closely with one of my favorite MIS professors. I provided supplemental instruction for a course (Enterprise IT Architecture) to over 100 students. I mainly provided feedback for writing executive summaries on different technologies. I benefited from this experience particularly by learning how to effectively help students in a difficult subject, and also by meeting many new classmates and professors, which I later worked with for separate projects.

In the spring of 2014, I completed another Peer Teaching opportunity. The course I co-taught was Data-Centric Application development. During the semester, I have, and am currently helping students learn the basics of PHP Programming- a skill which I believe is invaluable in many job industries.

STARR CATERING | Server | Philadelphia, PA

During sophomore year at Temple University, I began working within the Starr Restaurant group as a server at private events throughout Philadelphia. This opportunity taught me details pertaining to fine-dining events and increased my customer service knowledge. Event planning is a small interest of mine and so I was interested to learn the many facets and details that go into making a successful event from the server’s perspective.

TERAKEET | Intern | Syracuse, NY

After freshman year, I wanted to start applying my course work to real-world problems. As an intern at Terakeet, an SEO Company,  I edited content to be published on many websites and social media sites. The objective was to promote mesothelioma cancer  in order to increase web traffic to our client. I learned to embed links into articles to more successfully guide web results. My experience with this company has proven extremely beneficial and I really enjoyed my involvement.

LEGACY BOWS | Owner | CNY

After many years of being a cheerleader, I formed my own small business in September of 2009. Legacy Bows began as  a project to raise money for upcoming cheerleading competitions and events by selling hair bows to customers throughout the Central New York area. Quickly the business grew and I had a staff of ten who I worked with on a weekly basis. We traveled to various competitions around CNY, catered to the right market, and changed strategies as needed to further improve business.

HAMMI’S BBQ | Event Manager & Cashier | Greater Syracuse, NY

In May 2010, I ventured into the food service industry and worked with a mobile food vendor throughout New York state. During summers, I helped in numerous areas including advertisement, customer service, general maintenance, and product preparation. My favorite part was having the ability to travel to such places as the NYS Fair, the Jamesville Ballonfest, and the Madison-Bouckville Antique-fest. I am now currently the event manager and work this as a second job during the summers.

RuffaloCody | Student Caller | Philadelphia, PA

In November of 2011 I was hired by the “calling center” dubbed Temple Telefund for Temple University. Many friends called me a telemarketer, but my job was much more than that. Along with working to receive donations for the school funds and scholarship programs, I enjoyed interacting with alumni and parents to determine what is liked or disliked about the university. This opportunity improved my ability to communicate via telephone and made me feel as if my efforts helped the success of all Temple students.

NATIONAL CHEERLEADERS ASSOCIATION | Camp Staff | Northeast Region

May 2011 began my career as a part of NCA staff for the Northeast states. Being a part of staff, I traveled to local areas, with other staff members, in order to provide camps and  instruct campers in the many areas of cheerleading. The number of days provided and ages and number of participants varied from camp to camp. My involvement taught me things and allowed me to meet people that I will remember for the rest of my life.

CNY CHEER COMPANY | Tumbling Staff | Syracuse, NY

In May of 2010, I began part-time work as a tumbling instructor and secretary. I taught groups of 30+ children and young adults in basic, intermediate, and advanced level gymnastics and cheerleading. As a secondary task, I worked to improve the confidence of these individuals through sport. This experience greatly improved my confidence and public speaking abilities.
