My Experience

JP Morgan: Newark DE. Operations Analyst Intern

In 2014 I took part in the Operations Analyst Development Program at JP Morgan Chase & Co.  I was an placed on the Margin Trading Team where I learned much about the organization as a whole, and gained great insight into how heavily the financial industry relies on information technology. This was a finance internship, and I approached my responsibilities with an MIS perspective. The highlight of my summer was the executive speaker series. Throughout the ten week internship I saw presentations from CEO Jamie Dimon, and CIO Dana Deasy, both of which were really insightful. My biggest accomplishment over the summer was seeing an opportunity to improve clarity around the processes I worked with. To do this, I created Swim lane diagrams and Decision Trees to document the processes clearly. This required me to spend a lot of time with my colleagues and learning from their expertise. I also created a How-To guide for future interns with the hope that it would allow them to get up to speed quicker and have more time to find ways to work smarter and more efficient. Overall, I exceeded expectations and made some great connections within the organization.

Bentley Systems: Exton, PA. Internal Training Intern

During the summer of 2013 I held a full time internship with Bentley Systems. Throughout the summer I facilitated training within the organization by editing and managing content on the company’s Learning Management System. During my internship with the Internal Training department, I was responsible for editing recordings of presentations from a variety of internal sources. These included the Marketing, Financial Operations, Sales, and Technical Service departments. These tasks consisted of editing the audio and visual elements of presentations using Camtasia Studio and Microsoft PowerPoint, and then packaging this content into a course. I also uploaded and managed courses on the Learning Management System which required a strict attention to detail. During this process, I located and organized documents using Microsoft SharePoint and SAP. Working with content in this setting developed my attention to detail and appreciation for data integrity.  The courses and videos that I produced or collaborated on were then viewed by an audience  ranging in size from a handful of colleagues to the entire organization, this is something that I thought was really cool.

Throughout my summer I also worked on data “cleanup” projects in which I optimized SharePoint lists and file storage locations to accurately meet the demands of the department. I updated inaccurate data associated with inactive courses, cleared file storage locations of unused files, and searched SharePoint for broken links. These projects enabled the department to centralize training content, making it more accessible and consistent.

My position in the Internal Training department granted me a unique and encompassing perspective on the many different business functions and I learned how certain technologies can enable communication, collaboration, and learning . This was a great experience and the technological and communication skills that I developed will help me excel in the future.

Bentley is a global company and I was able to collaborate with colleagues located in England, Ireland, and from all over the US. I was also able to network with colleagues and other interns on multiple occasion, including the annual company picnic and during a lunch in with the CEO. These events, along with other opportunities really enhanced my internship experience and made me feel welcome at Bentley.

North Highland Consulting: Boston, MA. Intern

In July 2012, I was privileged enough to spend a month with the Boston branch of North Highland Consulting. A member of Highland Worldwide, North Highland has over 53 offices domestically and abroad. They provide a host of services to an impressive amount of businesses globally, and are highly esteemed. As an intern, I was responsible for transcribing dialog from client interviews, preparing and sending follow up e-mails to clients, and preforming back end work for the senior consultants. These duties included creating and editing presentation decks, researching and compiling case studies for prospective clients, and creating meeting and agenda templates for planning usage. My tenure at North Highland provided me great insight into the workings of client management and relation, various business cultures and the effects on their functionality, and I gained a magnificent perspective of everyday life as a consultant.
