A Chat with Black Professionals in Tech & Cybersecurity

The 3 panelists, Hakeem Thomas, Jamie Williams, and Ian Kimble, and the moderator, Tennisha Martin, spoke about and answered questions on what it is like being black in the cybersecurity industry. They talked about the individual struggles and adversities they each had to overcome to get to where they are now. The event was co-hosted by the CARE Lab, Black Girls Hack, and the Women in Cybersecurity and was an open Q&A session which encouraged the participants to ask questions. As someone who is interested in cybersecurity, I found the event very interesting as it was encouraging to hear each of their stories. A few things that stuck with me from the event were not to take everything personally and that you can still find success in the field even if you are not the most technically savvy person.
