Activities

Throughout my time as a member of AIS, I have participated in multiple professional development activities. They are as follows:

  1. Attending a small group meeting with industry: Comcast NBCUniversal
    • I was invited to this lunch and learn for Comcast NBCUniversal. Here, I networked with both recruiters and current professionals that work all over the country for NBCUniversal. It was very interesting to learn in-depth about the company culture, gain insight into their industry, and the different growth opportunities this particular company.
  2. Attending a panel for women in business: Discussing the The Real-World Feminist Handbook
    • This event was offered by the AIS eboard and it was a great opportunity to not only discuss the Real-World Feminist Handbook, but also to gain insight into the different roles the panelists held in the technology world. Being a woman in the business/technology world, it can be difficult to acclamate in a male-dominated industry. I found it very beneficial to network with the women who were panelists and learn from role models in the industry.
  3. Attending a sit-down lunch with an industry professional: Chris Cera
    • After attending a speaker series meeting for AIS, I had the opportunity to participate in a smaller sit-down lunch with Chris Cera. Cera is the CEO of Arcweb Technologies and this opportunity provided students a chance to discuss his journey through the technology world. Gaining the perspective of a CEO was incredible and he was able to shed light on a lot of questions other students and I had.
